Since the start of the holidays (about 3 weeks ago) I've made a real effort to eat a lot healthier and to avoid junk food. I've done really well and I've only really been eating fruit, veges and lean meat or chicken and drinking water.
I've lost 6kgs since =]
I have a BMI of 22.1 so I can afford to lose a bit of weight.
But I know feel a bit guilty to eat (because I don't want to ruin my good work). Yesterday and I had 2 salad sandwiches, some fruit salad and a bit of meat (Mum's really worried about my iron levels).
Is this enough? Should I be eating more?
I've had one sandwich today and it's 5pm, I'm a bit hungry but i'm fine.
Thanks, and please don't be rude or anything =]

I know children are dying in Africa and this year and I'm buying my family goats and sheep to give to needy family.
Well my sandwich has lettuce, tomato, cucumber, low fat mayo in seed and grain bread. That's what I mean by a salad sandwich.

I'm not taking any multi vitamins.
I don't wake up in time to have breakfast =] lol I love being on holiday.
I have McKenzie Country Seed and Grain bread (only New Zealanders will know what that is so don't worry lol)
I love water I drink like 3 Mizone bottles everyday. (not actually mizone I refill it with water)
I love fruit salad and low fat and reduced sugar yogurt.
I've had my iron levels check and they're fine but hers are low so she makes me eat red meat.

Well, eating healthy is nice and all but one sandwich all day will make for a bad diet.
I'm not saying that its unhealthy (people can survive off very little food), I'm saying that after not eating enough your body wants to save the calories more than normal, so if you were to have an unhealthy snack after not eating all day then your body will want to save all those calories and not burn them more than it should.
As for eating healthy foods, you can eat as much as you want (within reason). Most vegetables and fruits you can eat pretty much as much as you'd like.

Hey i'm trying to do the same thing now it is holidays. Hopefully i won't ruin it close to Christmas!!!
i think you should have a fulfulling breakfast with some protein.
Like cereal with milk or soy milk and fruit, toast with banana,
or eggs and toast or something like that. It has to be filling as this is the important meal. Also don't even bother with white bread, that will make you gain more weight opt for wholegrain or wholemeal. If you can't stand that then at least have half wholegrain.
Keep drinking heaps of water through out the day, and if you get sick of that add some lemon or lime.
Some good snack to have through out the day are nuts (limited) seeds, dried fruit (limited aswell) fruit, veges, yoghurt.
Also there are other sources of protein such as legumes and beans etc.
If you or your mum are worried about iron levels, you could get a blood test to see how they are. That is the best bet!
Also it is important you eat enough other wise you can end up gaining weight as you metabolism slows down.
You will also start feeling better if you do some exercise with your new healthy diet too!
As you can see Food & Nutrition is one my favourite subjects lol :D

the best way to lose weight it to make sure you are eating 6 to 8 times a day. It sounds strange but its true. The 6 to 8 times are small amounts spread out. When you eat it kicks your metabolism into gear and the eating more often every 2 to 3 hours keeps your metabolism going. When you deprive yourself of food than you gain weight. by only having a sandwich today it is going to cause you to gain weight. I used to not understand that at all but its true. Weight Watchers is a good way to go. they teach portion control and the right foods etc. They give you support as well it can be done on-line or locally. Hope that helps. good luck....PS never deprive yourself of something you like, remember moderation is the key. If you deny the good stuff you tire quickly from your healthy eating.

alright. this is a little complicated because you haven't really been too specific but here's what you want to do...
you need to have 3 (or 5) small but portioned meals. what i mean by that is that if you're having 3 meals a day, portion each so that they are each about 300-500 calories, and if you chose to have 5, portion each to be about 200-300 each. you want to make sure you're hitting the vitals and staying away from the bad carbs and starches and such.
what i'm noticing you could improve on is that losing weight is not about cutting off 2 of your meals and staying with one. what's most important is curbing off equal amount of each meal so that you are still eating 3 (or 5) meals a day, but that are just portioned differently and more healthy. otherwise, what will happen is that your body will recognize that it is not getting enough nutrition and at the first sign of food will store it as fat, thinking that it will not get anymore food.
i hope that helps!

you should probably be eating a bit more .. if you dont wanna eat more cause youre doing so well, then at least take a multivitamin or some iron supplements to make sure youll stay healthy. if youre hungry then you should eat! a lot of ppl gain weight because they eat when theyre not hungry. but when ur body is telling you something you should listen.just have something small &healthy. but congrats on the weight loss :] i wish i was that disciplined.

Hi Sarah, You should eat when you are hungry. Still eat health but eat when your tummy tells you too. We don't want you to lose any muscle tone etc. Or you can eat may be 4 or 5
short health meals(smart portions) That might be better for you and may be you won't feel hungry My Friend.

That's great that you are rying to be healthier. Small portions are good, but you should eat three square meals a day and snacks in between. Believe it or not, you'll lose more weight that way.

It depends, are you taking a good multi vitamin? I'd give you some home work if I could, dr. andrew weil here in the US has written some outstanding books on the subject, 8 WEEKS TO OPTIMAL HEALTH is a favorite of mine. If I gave you just one piece of advice in a year, I'd advice you to read that and follow his plan.

yes you're fine if you take an hour 3 times a week to jog/walk you'll feel even better.
PS when dieting it's best to "cheat" about once a week to shock your bodies metabolism, it'll actually help lose weight quicker
