the bible doesn't directly mention book of mormon characters or events by name because the bible was written by prophets who lived in jewrusalem. And the book of mormon was written by prophets who left jewrusalem without telling anyone and who moved to the american continent. And due to the fact that there was no sattelite or telephone communications back in those days, the prophets in jerusalem couldn't call up america, and say hey what's going on over in your part of the world.
However, since the book of mormon prophets had come from jerusalem, and were associated with the jerusalem prophets before they left, they knew all about jerusalem and what was going on there, and they had all the scriptures up to the time they left. and they took copies of the scriptures with them to america. And as they communicated with god and wrote their own records, the old scriptures were still very much alive in their minds and hearts, and they studdied them all the time.
Now, as far as their being mention of the people in the new world in the book of mormon, Jesus mentioned them, but not by name when he said, other sheep I have that are not of this fold, them I must visit, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. He was talking about going to visit the book of mormon people after he was reserrected. And that visit is recorded in the book of mormon when christ visits the people in the americas after he was resserected.

The family of Lehi departed from Jerusalem around 600 BC and traveled through the Sinai peninsula, before leaving by sea to come to American continent. Obviously, other than Lehi and his immediate family, Bible characters would have no knowledge of the inhabitants of the Americas after Lehi's departure.
However, the Savior Jesus Christ did. You will note that in the Bible, Christ mentions "other sheep" I have which are not of this "fold" (Jerusalem). See John 10:16 Mormons interpret this statement to mean the inhabitants of the Americas. Christ's post mortal visit to the Americas is documented in the Book of Mormon.

Many religions don't like to include things of other religions.
For example, Jesus was a Jew, but Jewish faiths were not included in Christian bibles.
Paganism ideas are in Christianity, but they are never stated.
- Ever wonder why people go to church on SUNdays?
In ancient Egyptian religion, there was a god that was born on the 25th and something else about it that was exactly the same as the god of Christianity.
So, if christian characters were mentioned, they would probably want to keep it only about mormons. So people won't switch religions.
PS. If I offended anyone through this, it was not intended. Religion is a very deep thing.

The Bible is a compilation of various books of scripture.
None of the 66 books in the Bible say which books of scripture should be included in scripture. The term Bible is in and of itself a non-biblical term, i.e. man made. You could just as easily ask why is "the Bible" never mentioned the Bible. Some mention scripture, but not one of those 66 books says, "There is going to be an anthology of 66 books lumped together and any other word of God will be ignored." You could also ask, "Why does Moses never mention Isaiah, or Ruth, or Jeremiah?"
I cannot imagine how offended God must be that humans have taken his scriptures, cherry picked 66 books, slapped the label "Bible" on them, and then twisted a verse in Revelation to try to say that God can no longer speak or give new scripture.
People often say, "Why do we need new scripture? What wrong with the scripture we have? Why do we need the Book of Mormon?" Remember, all scripture was at some point new scripture. When Isaiah was being written a person could have asked, "why do we need new scripture, what's wrong with 2 Chronicles or Exodus or any of the previous books?" The answer is that nothing was "wrong" with them. God speaks when he feels. In the same way, the fact that we have a Bible does not bar God from giving us more scripture.

The Book of Mormon is mentioned in the bible.
In Isaiah. chapter 29 verses 9-11 It is called'' A Marvelous Work, and a Wonder. It is a book that was ''sealed'' , and could not be read., by a learned man,
Joseph Smith took a sample of the hieroglyphs, from the Golden Plates. to a professor at a college, and he could not translate it.
But then, I suppose someone will say that it is just a coincidence. Right??
edit
Oregon Flower.
The Angel Moroni was sent to Joseph Smith by God, and The Book of Mormon does not add to the bible, it is another testemnet TO the bible. The Book of Mormon restores the gospel of Jesus Christ, to the Earth in its pure and uncorrupted form. So stop spreading lies.

The Book of Mormons is an extension of the Bible. It is said to contain the missing books of the Bible. I have never read it but to give you an idea, I know that there was a book in the Bible written by Mary Magdalan, it, of course, has never been published and is extremely hard to find.

I don't think that it mentions all the Bible characters, as you say, just those prophets that were in existance before Lehi left Jerusalem--they took the book of Isaiah with left on the plates, which were read by Nephi to his brothers in the early part of the BoM.
Other than that, the timeline is a record kept by those authors of the BoM who had the manuscript passed down to them. They mention how long it had been since Lehi left Jerusalem, or how many years their gov't had stood (ie--50 years of the reign of the judges, ect.)
Spaintola--So well said! Thank you! What I have always tried to put into words!!!!

Basically they used common sense to interpret the bible. For instance that God had a wife otherwise he wouldn't be happy and if they are good Christians they will be their own God over their own universe. So they use the bible for specific meanings but other things they decide what is likely. When I say "they" I'm actually talking about Smith that started it all.
I think a lot of Christians think they are a cult but most think they are misguided Christians.

It does mention it. Several times. It does not use the term "Book of Mormon," but there are "other records/books" that are talked about.

Mormons consider the Book of Mormon to be "another gospel" of Christ. They also believe that the Bible is ok "as far as it is correctly translated," however, they don't seem to know where it might be INCORRECTLY translated.
And as far as it being "another gospel," God's Word is quite clear about that in Galatians 1:8 "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach ANY OTHER GOSPEL to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed."
God bless!
