This question is on one of my assignments, and my logic teacher insists that is possible but I know that it's not. Does anyone know it?

THE IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION:
Norris and Zorna were planning to spend a Friday night at the movies. Zorna was informed that she would have to bring her younger brother, Peyton. Once the movie started, 17-year old Zorna remembered that she is older than Peyton and that he had not yet turned completed elementary school. Zorna broke out in laughter.
BASED ON THE PARAGRAPH ABOVE, STATE THE EXACT AGE OF PEYTON.

SO... is this impossible or did someone get it??

The one thing I got, besides the fact that this question makes no sense, is the break in the sentence you wrote..."and that he had not yet turned completed elementary school." Something has been removed or changed here. Turned what?

This question looks like one a teenager concocted. The entire writing is illogical. Zorna must bring her younger brother, Peyton and it's not until the movie started that she remembered she was older than Peyton? Well, that's exactly what she was supposed to be! Anyway....the answer is 13!

In order to come up with the answer you need to define what elementary school is. When I went to elementary it was through grade 8th which they still have in some places. But now we also have junior high which is not considered elementary. Thus elementary ends at grade 5.

Here's what you need to consider. Zoma is 17 and her brother has not completed elementary. If elementary is till grade 6 then Peyton would be no more than 10-11 depending on when his birthday falls. If it goes till grade 8 then he would be 12-13 depending on his birthday.

Are they twins and he is 17 also. I don't know about the "completed elementary school" thing BUT maybe he was born an hour or so earlier in the day then she was, she had possibly forgotten that she was born earlier or something?

I have no clue It does look like a small bit of information was left out because "and that he had not yet turned" ___?___"completed elementary school." does not flow properly or make sense.

There is no definitive answer other than Peyton's age (X) is less than 17 and more than 5 (in elementary school).

Therefore 5>X>17 (5 is less than X and X is less than 17).

Exact age is not possible to tell but he is in the age group of those who r supposed to be in elementary school. Besides the paragraph itself looks to be in disarray.
