This was actually the subject of a conversation a few years back, the reason told was because men don't get to sit on the seat as often as women and they find that it is the most comfortable seat in the house. Women spend less time on it because they don't think the same, hence they have no time to read.
Also that if women did spend too much time in there they would constantly be disturbed, such as "when is dinner", where's my socks etc.

Women are only in the toilet for a short time and don't need to read on the john. However, women always bring a cosmetics bag with them to the ladies room to freshen up or re-apply makeup etc. which does take a long time.

Who the hell takes something to read when they go to the washroom? Why can't you just go when you feel like going?

Since women always go to the restroom in pairs, they are too busy talking to each other to read.
The next time your out to eat with your date and another couple, see if the ladies go to the restroom together.

ewwww, nasty bathroom book!
I hate it when I go to someone's house and they have that nasty magazine rack wedged in next to the toilet. Just what I want to pick up and read - someone else's toilet splatter all over a year old copy of People magazine....
