I apologize if people think that my question is trying to prove an agenda, it is not. I am simply interested.

Conscience. Of course, atheists don't believe one can be magically forgiven for every/any wrongdoing, so we simply try not to do wrong things in the first place.

I'm actually agnostic, nevertheless, my first thought is that the real question should be where they (we?) think morality comes from if there is no God. Guilt itself is easy. That's just the disconnect between feeling that a certain action is "immoral" and doing it anyway because we fear certain consequences of doing the "right" thing. The real question is how we decide what is moral and what isn't. I don't have any grand theories on this, but I have no doubt I could come up with one that didn't require the intervention of God.

Guilt is an emotion that comes from doing something you KNOW is wrong.

Emotions come from brain activity.

All people get their feelings of guilt the same way; atheists or religious people.

Guilt, like all other thoughts and emotions, result from chemical and electrical activity in the brain. It's an evolutionary adaption to limit our harming and killing of each other. Civilization would not be possible if we were all sociopaths constantly at each others throats.

If your asking this to try to prove the existence of God, read your bible, guilt is not from God. Its a human condition, made worse by the devil.

Geez am I the only christian on here that actually paid attention in sunday school?

Very deep, in an extremely shallow way. Surely, if you were to think just a little, you could come up with something yourself. Or, do you need "an atheist" to teach you, since your church cannot.

anyone with morals is going to feel guilt. Just b/c I don't believe in a religion doesn't mean i'm not a moral person.

guilt comes from sleeping with you ex-husband's brother...
stepping on your dog's tail
or killing a whale..

Yes, that's guilt and atheists don't like the feeling so just like any other belief system, we steer clear of the guilty conscience.... no Gods, dieties, or mysticism/fear involved.

From knowing the basic difference between right and wrong. That doesn't come from only believing in God.

Just because I'm not involved in organized religion
doesn't mean I lack a moral compass.

The tone of your Q suggests you believe otherwise.
I feel sorry for you.
