Jesus was the first civil rights activist. He discriminated against no one who had a pure heart: prostitutes, tax collectors, and other social pariah.

In Luke 6:27-36, Christ speaks of treating others as you would like to be treated, turning the other cheek, loving your enemy, & being merciful just as God is merciful. I believe that these were some of the fundamental ideas behind the Civil Rights Movement, & therefore Dr. King was right.

Martin Luther King Jr. meant dat nonviolence is a known and preferred method of absolving issues in the past and dat it solves the problem at hand without bloodshed and empowers or makes the person who uses it the bigger man.

While it is true that Jesus was a radical egalitarian, welcoming prostitutes, tax collectors, snobbish Pharisees, and Roman soldiers, he was not a political activist.

"Render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." "My kingdom is not of this world."

Joining God's kingdom does not take an act of government. You can be free in God's kingdom and be a prisoner or slave in the world.

However, when Christians established America's shining city on a hill, they applied Jesus' radical egalitarianism, at least in principle, and eventually in reality. After all, the notion that "all men are created equal" if fundamentally rooted in Judaism and Christianity.

Cheers,
Bruce

Because Jesus spoke up for the disadvantaged and under served. And MLK being a Baptist drew upon Christ's teachings to help serve people of all kinds as well.

Was he right? It depends on who you believe in. As long as good comes out of it, its okay w/ me!

He means that jesus christ made the civil rights movement in america possible..but I totally disagree with him because the bible has convinced people that only their religion is right and that homosexuality is wrong, which has made so many people bias and totally goes against the whole basis of the civil rights movement

Jesus was not afraid to speak His mind.
He is an inspiration to everyone who has chosen to fight the battle of bigotry. Or any other righteous endeavour.

Jesus Christ is known for his ability to judge people by their conduct and not their ancestry.

He might have been coached into saying that. Just like he plaigerized most of his speeches. He was also a communist and a 33rd degree freemason. (waits for the thumbs downs)
