i have a nikon d40. i want to take infrared picures, but not the ones that are black and white. should i buy a filter? if so, which one. remeber i have a niko9n d40. or can i acheive the look in photoshop 2? any adive is appriciated! thankls!

Like stated above, the only way to get true IR images is to use an IR filter. It is shot in color, then you normally convert it to B&W later. I do not know if you can pick up an actual screw on filter, but the usual way is to convert the whole camera by a machine shop. What they do is either remove or put on an IR blocking filter, allowing you to take these images. Once this happens, you'll have to get it professionally removed or re-attached to shoot regularly.

One thing with IR photography is that once you put on that filter, you cannot see anything at all. The viewfinder is completly black. This also means you need a good solid tripod. The reason being, you'll have to lower the shutter speed to below 30 seconds, and many times much, much slower.
