If he stinks really bad that a regualr dog shampoo won't take care of, try using some from the pet store that have a baking soda in it or even the ones formulated for skunk odor removal. They make a deodorizing spray that comes with a brush. They sell it at Wal-mart and most pet stores. It's called Perfect Scents. You can use it with the brush or by itself and it doesn't have any alcohol in it so you can use it as often as needed. I have used lots of the smelly pet colognes and this one is by far the best because it actually almost gets rid of the smell, so you don't have a dog that smells like flowers and stinky dog. It's a really nice mild scent and they have 2 scents to choose from. Good luck.

Sure!!!!!!!! Go right a head! Add some downy to him too! If you plan on sending him through the washing machine which will kill him!
DO NOT WASH ANY ANIMAL IN ANY THING THAT IS NOT MADE FOR DOGS SAVE FOR DAWN IN AN EMERGENCY!
Sorry, about the sarcasm I know the agony, but they have some good smelling shampoos for dogs, me I have two dogs plus 11 pups and yes I do bath the adults more than normal because of the fact I've had them since they were 2 and a half weeks old, plus Triv my male has very sensitive skin and hair lose (allergic to grass) and I have to bath him two times a week, sometimes unplanned if I leave the bathroom door open he and his sister will shoot into to shower with me and I can not get them out until I wash them, they LOVE baths.
Also there are dog wipes, like baby wipes to help between baths, Wallmart has some good stuff and Petsmart for this, however Wallmart is better priced. (My dogs smell like Suntanning oil) I got Foam coconut and let me tell you three pumps all you need can at $2.88 last a month for one dog and these are Rotties.
The conditioner really helps too, as does the wipes for them, and does not put a bad dent in your wallet as Petsmart will.
good luck

No. Just wash him regularly with an oatmeal dog shampoo. Every two weeks or so will loosen his debris. He'll be squeaky clean in no time. Rinse out the soap, soak him with vinegar, then rinse most of it out during your first few washes. I know vinegar smells awful, but the smell goes away, it deodorizes the fur, corrects the Ph, and disinfects for bacterial critters which cause the smell. Brush him.
Check and clean his ears with a doggy ear cleaning product. Sometimes the ears are what stink the most. Dogs with floppy ears tend to suffer from yeasty ear infections. It makes some dogs smell like sour wine. Very offensive. Other dogs smell much worse.
Your dog may also have a problem with his anal glands. They could be impacted. You'd have to take him to the vet to find out. If he is frightened, he may be expressing his glands which smell unlike you've ever smelled anything before.
Good Luck.

He's not supposed to smell like your clothes, he's a dog not a toy!
Try using the proper shampoo, washing powders and washing up liquids no matter how gentle they may be are not designed for use on animals and if you use them your next question is likely to be " Help!, my dog has dandruff, what can I do?"
I never bath my dog unless she rolls in something and she never smells doggy even when she's been out in the rain, I'd have a look at the diet you are feeding! Or take it to a vet if it's as bad as you say! No dog should smell that bad!
Bet you wouldn't use dish or clothes cleaners on your own skin and hair!

Good heavens, no!!!!
Your poor dog's skin would be a mess, it would burn him.
Don't listen to that old Dawn dishwashing liquid myth either, that's for dishes, has soap and chemicals, way too harsh.
Go to the pet store, or even Walmart and get a mild dog shampoo - preferably one without soap in it, dog's need the oil on their skins, a harsh shampoo or soap washes it away and irritates them.
I use HyLite on all my dogs, soapless, but cleans them beautifully, was recommended by people who show their dogs, gets them clean, makes their coats nice too.
There are plenty of good dog shampoos, just don't wash him too often - and DON'T use dish liquid or laundry detergent, what a horrible idea.

Don't use "Tide" unless you want to cause a severe rash or kill your dog.
Feed your dog a better food. Remember you are what you eat.
Use the shampoo line by "Kelco". This shampoo is used by professional groomers in most grooming shops and for dogs competing in the AKC show ring.

Tide is not something you should wash your dog with, it's way too harsh. Healthy dogs don't stink and should only need a bath if they've rolled in something nasty. Consider feeding your dog a better grade of kibble.

Absolutely not! You will destroy his skin if you wash him with Tide. You should get a good shampoo from your vet. Feed him better food so he won't smell so much.

You can, but only if you don't like your dog and want it to die. If you do like your dog, go to a pet store and get a good dog shampoo. Don't overwash your dog though, this can do harm to there skin as well. Sadly, some dogs just smell. I know no matter what we do for ours she smells pretty bad.
