Wow. My preparation for family devotions has been focused on the Conception of St. Mary, and on the second week of Advent--St. Nick didn't even come up on my radar screen, I'm embarassed to say. (Pathetic, since his name's on the calendar right here on my refrigerator.)
This having now been brought to my attention, I say we'll at least be reading his story as told in One Hundred Saints, and/or the article at catholicculture.org. *runs off to choose between the two*

What? Another holiday to celebrate...and no time off from work? I'm sure jolly old St Nic won't be too insulted by this sad lack of respect. I do wonder though...if he died, how does he fly through the sky on Christmas Eve with all those reindeer? Is that his reincarnated self? In his honor, I shall share a glass of Koolaid and some cookies with a young earthling. Off the record...wish I could share my near-death gift with you this Christmas. It makes everyday a holiday.

Dear and Reverend Father,
Since I was on retreat on Wednesday, the Trappist monks very kindly had Lauds, Mass, and Vespers of St. Nicholas for me. I suspect, however that they might have done so even if I had not been there!
I admire St. Nicholas' anonymity in giving, so like God's giving of unnoticed gifts to us, and I have tried- spasmodically-to imitate that.
So if I had been at home, in addition to commemorating him in the Liturgy, I might have made an anonymous donation. Perhaps I still will.
I'm relatively new to Yahoo Answers, so your present avatar is the first time I've seen you. You look appropriately clerical and very knowledgeable.

I am going to spend the day with a friend who is recovering from major surgery and has no one to help her while her daughter is in school during the day. I'm planning on stopping at the store and buying some kind of little treat or surprise for her to cheer her up.
I think that St. Nicholas would approve.

Tomorrow I will probably do nothing to commemorate this distinguished Saint of God.
But when we get to Heaven we will definitely want to meet him and hear him teach on the Word of God. Surely he has many interesting things of value to share.

Hey, yeah, shouldn't I be putting $ in the kids' shoes?
Other than that, I don't know...but I did bring up the kids to know that "Santa Claus" was really St. Nicholas, and all.

We had the kids put their shoes out and we'll stick a piece of candy in them for tomorrow. I told my three year old about how St. Nicholas liked to give things to people, because giving is the best. He replied, "I don't BELIEVE it!" *sigh*
Peace to you.

Peace of Christ to you, Fr. K...same as I do everyday, prayer, try to get to mass. Thanks for pointing out though that Niki is an Asian dude (really a part of my ministry)...this mystical body of Christ (all Christianity combined) has gotta include all the folks of the world.
