They each have different mission statements.
Marine recon is just that; recon. They generally go out, scout, infiltrate and report back and directly fire.
Seals are usually a quick reaction force. They land, rescue/recover and exit.
Green Berets (SF) are longer term forces. Dropped behind lines, work with underground fighters, sabotage, etc. may be gone months. Like working with the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan early in the war.
Ranger are basically elite army forces.
Now these are very general and the jobs do overlap considerably as conditions mandate so none of this is carved in stone. Also Recon, Seals and SF personell often combine in team for various missions when required.
Recon teams often have Navy Corpmen who may be Seals as part of their team as they are under Dept of the Navy.
As former Army I may be biased but I think SF are the baddest. They can work for long intervals, totally independent. But that's just me.

Well if you go Army, since your 17 first you need to get through basic and AIT..and get a 11G (airborne ranger) contract, go through RIP or ROP if your a NCO before you get it, get stationed at a ranger battalion, wait about a year and go to ranger school, when you get 20, 21 years old, apply for a 18X contract, go through SFAS (special forces assessment and selection), get selected and move on to the "Q" course, wait a couple years and if your extremely hi-speed, apply for delta selection.
Delta is the top of the Special Forces chain..there's also rumor's that there's a special forces unit called "Ghost" and there supposed to be higher in the chain than delta..
thats my plan since i've made it through rip and now i get treated like **** lol
good luck in whatever you decide to do tho :)

They all do different jobs. Some actually train local forces in military tactics, some are used for scouting more than combat missions, etc. The truth of the matter is the the most elite special forces unit is likely a secret.
You should do some basic research on your own rather than take the opinions of people on here.
Best of luck.

Army has the elite force. green berets and delta force. I am currently in the army and have been for years. what I have seen is MOST of the advanced training that all branches go through are ran by the army I.E. AIRBORNE, AIRASSAULT, HALO, as well as the advanced school S.E.A.R.S not to mention when I was in kansas I was instructing the senoir ranks of every branch on the procedures in Iraq.
I'm not talking down to any other branch. and i'm sure there will be marines, (which is part of the navy) and other branchs who will say otherwise because thats who they joined but if you break down their training and history it all starts with the army...
look up the history where the marines got their dress uniform from(the one everyone loves) was army first.. they just added red trimming. but like i said MOST.. not all training is conducted by the army.
but when it comes to it the top are
Army
Seals
and marines.

Navy SEALs are the baddest of the bad! Imagine doing a HALO jump from 30,000 feet into the water. Swimming 6 miles in to shore. Blowing something up / taking out a baddie. And then extracting via a helicpotor.
I had the privlege of meeting Richard "Demo Dick" Marcinko when I was in the Navy. If you haven't read his first book, "Rogue Warroir", DO IT!
SEALs train in Coronado,CA. Training is 26 weeks long. The 6th or 7th week is known as "Hell Week"!!! Only 2 hours of sleep a day for a week. (If you're lucky!)
After that, they go to parachute jump traing in Fort Benning, GA. After that, they get put on a probation-like state for a year. That's how they prove themselves!

Im a Marine, my father was a marine so my answer might be biased. The Marine Corps is built from the finest individuals our country has to offer. I know The SEALS got a lot of hype but theyre amphibous based, the marines recon unit do it all. The best part is they're the only ones who complete the mission without fail. After 232 years of service the Marines have never lost a battle. I hope I was helpful.

What do you want to do? Each has different fields of operations and responsibilities. For example, Rangers are highly skilled light infantry, shock troops. Special Forces are masters of unconventional warfare

There does not exist a 'best,' though you will hear many opinions. They each have their role, their specialty and their own intrinsic value.
As much as I want to broadcast my opinion, I think it would be responsible on your part to investigate each one and match up what you find with your own personal interests. If you hate the idea of swimming 8 miles to shore, than you may not be interested in the SEALs. So they are all accomplished units, but their value as premiere will solely rest on your impression of them and your interests as there is no way to determine who is better.
Hope this helps.

Navy Seals are the absolute best at what "special forces" do.
Very often they are there before any of the others you mentioned get there.
I saw them in action in Vietnam when I was in the Navy. They were scary even then.
