It's not the bottle because I have bought her a new one - same problem. It soaks the shavings inside, and therefore empties within just over half a day. How can I prevent the bottle from dripping? Thank you.

You may need a new water bottle. When guinea pigs eat, and take a drink, their food will sometimes go back into the spout causing it to leak.
First, try rinsing out the spout under hot water, fill it up to the rim, tip it over and push in the ball(to create the suction). If that still doesn't work, you should get a Critter Canteen. I've had mine for over a year now and I haven't had a problem with it. There's a spring holding the ball in the spout in place, so it very rarely leaks.
You could also get some bricks, and put them under the spout. It will soak up the drips, but just be sure to change the bricks frequently frequently.

Possibly it's not the bottle, but the guinea pig who's causing the mess. We have the same problem b/c our guinea pig loves playing with the bottle. We put it a bit higher in his cage so he can't mess with it so easilly but can drink with no problem & this has helped quite a bit but he still manages to spill a certain amount. He's got toys & gets plenty of attention but there's just something about that water bottle...

Cheap water bottles will leak. Get a decent water bottle and it will barely leak.

How is it leaking? if there is a crack then deffenitly use tape, If it is leaking from the metal ball, then I think your going to have to get a new one.
