It replace into Jeff Burton who led all 3 hundred laps at New Hampshire in 2000. What hasn't been reported is that he led all 3 hundred laps because of the fact the automobiles have been fastened with restrictor plates using tragic deaths of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin in the summer season of 2000 on the recent Hampshire music. NASCAR required the restrictor plates, which in turn made it almost impossible to bypass in the time of the race. I keep in mind that race, and it replace into certainly a very painful race to observe, no longer purely using circumstances in contact, yet additionally using destructive high quality of "racing".

No one in the modern era has led 500 laps in a single race. Maybe 500 MILES, but I didn't check for that stat. The only tracks it would have been possible were at Martinsville, Bristol and Dover prior to the fall of 1997 (they run 400 laps now, but used to run 500). There are a few more tracks SHORT enough, but 420 laps or less were ran (Richmond, North Wilkesboro, Nashville, etc...).
The last driver to lead every lap in a single race was Jeff Burton on September 7, 2000 at Loudon (New Hampshire International [now Motor] Speedway). That race is 300 laps long, not 500. Plus, he started second and not on the pole. Bobby Labonte had the pole. That was the only restrictor plate race run except for Talladega and Daytona.
Oh, Indy only has 160 laps (400 miles). And, when Kevin Harvick won he only led 33 laps.
