Part of the problem is, many of the parks and preserves where these animals are located are spread over such a vast area, there are not enough resources to hire enough armed guards to patrol for poachers.

Not only should the penalties be more severe for the poachers themselves, but also for the traffickers and retailers of these products. And, what about all the Asian "medicine" stores that sell various parts of these animals for traditional medicinal purposes as well? The governments of these countries would need to crack down on these practices as well.

Poaching endangered animals IS illegal. Some still do, but the laws very much SHOULD be enforced! If anyone is reading this who DOES poach these magnificent creatures, you should stop the minute you read this! You're breaking the Thread Of Life and you're risking YOUR life! If you don't decide to stop, may jail and possibly death be your punishment!!!!!

i love animals and i think that they all deserve a chance for survival, and if poachers dont stop killing all the endangered animals they will become extinct, which causes a multitude of other problems with the eco-system. There is a reson that the killing of endangered animals is illegal, and i do beleive that the punishment for all kinds of animal mis-treatment is too lenient. u can abuse your dog and spend as much time in jail as you would if you shop lifted a sweater.
what some peole do to animals shocks me, and i think that animal abuse and poaching of endangered animals should be considered a felony, and sentanced as one as well.

Here in Florida the penalties for killing endangered species such as alligators, manatees, bald eagles, panthers and other species are quite stiff and are a good deterrent. The bigger problem is we lack enough wildlife conservation officers to effectively patrol our wild areas.

I often find it hard to reconcile why so many people want to have a job protecting the environment but are not interested in this job.

I have mentioned this rewarding work to environmentally concerned young people and they regularly give me a disinterested response.

I think the poachers wouldn't be poaching if they couldn't sell their kills. The people we should concentrate the most on are the businesses that sell the pelts and ivories and the people who buy them. Without demand, there would be no need for poachers.

Death for poaching is unjust. If you value animal life more than human life, then your priorities are all wrong.
