I was surprised, too. I don't think they say they're atheists for shock value, but I do think that most of the things they say about God are just to get a rise out of people. (Since they say they don't believe in Him.)

Everyone has their own opinion. You're just another who has to respect it. Some wouldn't agree with Christians/Muslims/Agnostics/whatever it may be. Shock value? Is that what you call someone's beliefs? What if I'd say you're just asking this question for shock value? Don't be shocked. It's just another opinion.

of the international's inhabitants, 33%, Christian 21%, Islam sixteen%, Nonreligious 14%, Hindu 6%, Primal-indigenous 6%, Trad. chinese language 6%, Buddhism and so on. curiously sufficient, Judaism is obtainable in 12th at 14 million people, or .22% of the international's inhabitants. One rationalization for the skewings of atheists on Yahoo solutions is because of the fact the distribution of Atheists in the international is very fashionable in better international places, the place computers and information superhighway are greater available.

I think there are truly a lot of Atheists in the world, not just Y! R&S. They are more open about it in democratic countries where they can share their thoughts without punishment, in my opinion. I don't think they say it for shock value ~ rather truth value ~ their truth.

I think atheism is seen as such a shocker by so many people. But I often wonder why people see it as such a radical thing. Most atheists live normal everyday lives and may have values similar to yours or mine. They may raise children well, give back to their community, etc... just because they don't necessarily believe that there is a god doesn't necessarily mean they lead meaningless lives. I'm in social work and know many social workers who are atheists and they come in every day and give much of themselves to others. People often say you have to believe in something to make your life mean something, but honestly sometimes I think, why can't you just put your faith and beliefs in yourself?

And I am shocked at the legions of people who do not know the correct use of the apostrophe. As to your question, no, I think they say it because they are atheists, as am I. Note that there is no apostrophe in the plural word "atheists", nor should there be in any plural word. Just because a word ends in s, that doesn't mean you should just pop in an apostrophe. They are used only with possessive nouns and pronouns, and to indicate the missing letter or letters in contractions.

I am shocked by the number of questions by Christians that do not understand the meaning of Christianity!
It is also for the shock value, or is it just pig ignorance?

Nope, but I think that some people claim Christianity for the shock value.

I wonder how many are truely athiests or really agnostics. Even science gives us the Big Bang Theory. The Universe started at one single point. But what force caused that force and what existed before the Universe? Our minds can't even begin to understand the complexity of this topic. We can't even imagine there being nothing, because nothing to us is something, even if that means a vacuum in space.

I agree and think that in some cases they are going for shock value. Sometimes they are just trying to be funny and some really don't know the joy of having the Lord in their heart. I feel sorry for the latter. I just received a very vulgar response to a simple question I put out there for conversation. This person actually disrespected me by sending me an e mail that is not repeatable and ended with her telling me to "F" off. I don't know what makes some people tick, but in her case I don't think I'd want to be around when she stops ticking (if you get my drift).
