More than any person could count... there is an infinite number of makers and varieties. Even if you did a search online and found all bajillion wineries, there are some that might not be found online. As far as varieties go, there is one type of wine out there for every type of grape, as well as every type of fruit, every type of honey, etc. Then figure in combinations (blackberry merlot, raspberry apple wine, etc.)

I'm sure nobody really knows. new wines are made every day, many by non-commercial wineries.
As far as grape varieties, there are more than 10,000 documented varieties within species Vitus Vinefera alone. Add to that all of the other grapes that are grown around the world (all of which have probably been fermented at one time or another...) and who knows?!?!

I hope somebody here can answer this one convincingly...I'm all ears (eyes?).

WOW. What a question. I love it and look forward to an answer.

The number has got to be staggering.

For example, in North Carolina alone, there are over 300 vineyards and over 60 wineries. That is for just one state that ranks about 12th in US wine production.

I look forward to a definitive answer.
