I am 15. I have a 3.5 GPA and my family is in the upper middle class.I think I can at least get into collage so I am not worried about that. I don't wanna join just to shoot guns and blow stuff up. Is it too early to even think about joining? When do you know that you want to join and if you have how old were you and what where your reasons?

I joined the ARMY just before I turned 19. I did it because I wanted a good career in life and figured it is either go to college or get experience somehow. I knew I didn't want to go to school for 4 more years so I decided to get experience. What better way to get experience in in a good career field and get paid for it? Anyways I did 5 years and am now out. I have a good job and make good money. If I had to go back and make the same decision again the only ting that I would do different is I would have joined the Air Force instead on the ARMY. I am proud to have been a soldier don't get me wrong, but the Air Force takes better care of their people I think. Anyways you have a bit of time to make your decision so I wouldn't worry about it to much. I will say that the military is a good thing and it does build character. I think if you're up for it, it's an honorable thing to do and don't let anyone else make you think otherwise. Whatever you do decide I wish you luck.

You are an honorable young man to consider enlisting in the armed forces. Consider Junior ROTC if your school offers it.

I think that kids who do JROTC who enlist after graduation get in at a slightly higher rank than other enlistees.

There is NOTHING WRONG with enlisting after graduation.

Although all recruits have firearm and weapon training, not all MOSs are "grunt" work. A bright guy like you would do well in high tech work.

In fact there is a shortage of young men and women from the upper socio economic groups in the military! Read the book by Frank Schaeffer about this problem.

It's never too early to think about the rest of your life. My husband knew in Junior High he wanted to join the military and worked from that day on. He joined the Air Force.

Our suggestion to you would be to join ROTC in high school as that will give you an idea of what the military is about. With the ROTC, you can also participate in the ROTC in college and often times they will pay for your college to help you get your bachelors degree. Then, when you go into the military, you will go in as an officer. As far as what branch, it would be a good idea to start doing some research on each branch now to find out what they have to offer, what types of jobs are available in that branch, etc. Be VERY careful when talking to recruiters, as they will try and sell you on their branch of the military and sometimes will not be totally honest with you.

There are a LOT of jobs you can do in the military that do not involve shooting at people, or being shot at. To name a few... logistics, linguistics, support and supply, etc.

The links below list each branch of the military with a brief overview of each, and ways to contact them. Also, the second link provides information on military careers.

Good luck in finding the career that is what you envision for yourself and may you find it as fulfilling as you hope. :)

Yeah, 15 is a tad bit early. You have to be 18 nowadays. I was 20 when i joined, and i joined because i was bored..not the best reason, yes, but a reason just the same. wait for another 2 years, then decide if the military is right for you.

I don't remember a time that I didn't want to be in the Army.

I met with the recruiters when I was 16 and enlisted into the National Guard 5 days after my 17th birthday.

Now I'm Regular Army with a Masters degree and 2 combat tours with one on the way.

Your still young and there is a war going on that will probaly last a little longer and if you join during it and die think about your family and people who care about you I wouldnt think about joining the military unless you really need money for college which in you case you dont so I would say you shouldnt think about it. But its your choice.
