College is becoming increasingly important in our society. I don't understand why it has to be so expensive. If it's detrimental to getting a good job, why do we have to pay a price that is constantly rising? Starting in 2009 for 4 yrs. at 7% inflation with 1 yr cost of $12,968.50 it would cost a projected $65,922.66. Is it any wonder why this country is so in debt? What are your thoughts?

Community colleges are good schools, but for a lot of jobs that's not enough.

the state schools in my state are 20k/year. it's insane to expect people to be able to pay that kind of money. On TV I saw a special about it, less and less people are going to college, and in the end, it is going to cause problems, and put us behind other developed countries, where college is free. Even of those who went to college, statistically, the less the family income, the less likely the student was to get through college by the time they were 24.

Its the governments job to make sure that every 40 years your money is only worth 5% of its original value. That means that something that cost 1 dollar today, will cost 20 dollars in 40 years. Or if you buried 1,000 dollars in the ground today and dug it up in 40 years, it would buy you the same thing 50 dollars would buy you today. So 1 million dollars for an education in 43 years is about right. (comes out to about 50,000) 40 years ago a brand new mustang cost 2,000 dollars. (my dad bought one in 1967 at that price) Today a brand new mustang costs 40,000 dollars. In 40 years a brand new mustang will cost 800,000 dollars. Seems like a lot now, but remember that federal minimum wage in 40 years will be 117 dollars per hour.

So many people want to go and they will do anything to get in. So, they raise the prices all the time so they can make money, because people will still go no matter how high the price is. Pretty crazy, huh? College is such a lot of money now a days!!!

if you go to college, you would understand that current inflation also account for salary increases.. things cost more, but we make more so the cost is relatively the same. prices are always placed on things of value. if college was "given" out to everyone, then it wouldn't be of value.

Our country can't really be in debt because individuals pay for colleges; grants for colleges are credited to the university, not actually payed to them by the government.

Supply and demand.

Also, my good liberal arts education requires me to mention that it's the Man keepin' us down. Those in power don't *want* college to be universally available, because then anybody could be educated enough to do the jobs of the powerful.

....but mostly supply and demand.
