The default avatar on Yahoo! Answers is an outline of a male's head?
I mean, not all of us are men.
I'm not a man! for example.
I've seen a lot of people who don't have a picture or anything, so the little gray outline just shows up.
But their names say "Miss" or something that says they are girls, but at first I think they're guys..

I agree with who so ever it was that said it's confusing,
because even more than sexism, it confuses me.
And I, personally, don't care. I was just wondering what ya'll think.
I'm not being 'overly feminist'

It would be sexist the other way around too. So really, it was just a question of whom to offend. Personally, I would have chosen men because they are less likely to raise a fuss over something so insignificant.

Not only sexist, but VERY confusing. It is wrong of me, but when I glance and see a male image (maybe even sub-consciously) I answer many questions with that fact in mind. I'd prefer a "blank" default, as I don't like the Avatar's and find myself also forming opinions about people based on the Avatar they have chosen, which I think is the point, right?

Good question- It kind of forced me to get my avatar. I am not as young as the Avatars they offer and I don't have white hair to show I am older. I think Yahoo should change it to the same blank face they use when you just have yahoo mail with no avatar (my other mail). There's a lot of things yahoo needs to know and maybe they will listen. I once wrote Yahoo to tell them that I didn't like their e-mail sign in page and a few weeks later it was changed. I think they will listen if we let them know.

i think the theory of sexism is blown way out of proportion these days.
sexism used to be a man getting paid $10 more an hour for the exact same job as a woman.
Or a woman having to wear a different uniform because she's a woman.
But the defult icon thing... its just silly. i mean, is it sexist that we call you a woMAN? or a feMALE? no, of course not.
and i think they're guys too. but i dont care. :)

It's an outline of a head. Aren't you being sexist assuming it's a male?

for the first guys
f u ck you
who cares if guys were first on earth
i dont think it has anything to do with it so stop being a self rightous male shovenish pig
i think its just because it would look weird if they added hair and you couldnt see it. thats why they let you change it to look like you<33

I think it could also look like a female with short hair
As to the person who said women came from men, the first woman in the bible was Lilith not Eve and she was made from the same clay as Adam. :-p

If it was a girl the opposite problem would be true, and it is more socially acceptable for a woman to be masculine than for a man to be feminine.
