i do not buy the whole mayan prediction of the world ending on 2012. i believe the Bible's Revelations and its predictions, but i'd like to hear other people's theories, because i know there are some theories that the end has actually happened, or that it is happening, or the more convential theory that it is in the future. so, what are your thoughts about the end of the world?

there are some who believe that the bible is sort of a telling of the end of the world; that in fact our world is the end of all the horrors in the bible. however, this theory seems a little silly to me. and i don't agree that the 50's were a happier time, there was segregation for instance, and people all over the world still (and still do, but it's getting better) lived in poverty. also, communism was alive and well in russia, as well as in east germany. so really, every age or time period has had its problems.

I definately believe Revelations from the Holy Bible, but anyone that tries to put a date on it is full of it, as the Bible says that not even the angels know.
I have tried to adopt this philosophy instead of trying to figure out dates that the world will end-
Make plans like you won't see the end in your lifetime, Live each day as if it is your last.
If you follow that, you won't be dissapointed however it turns out.

First off on this whole mayan thing...i believe people just love to grab and reach for things to believe in...the bottom line is this...the mayan calendar was just that....a calendar. It had to have a beginning...which it did...0000...and some sort of ending time....which just happened to be 2012...just that simple, you can't create a calendar without some ending date....their only belief (and don't get me wrong, they were brillant star gazers, and we use much of there techniques still today) was that on that date there was a unusual winter solstice that would occur, with some possible lunar caused flooding....they never made a claim that it would be the end to anything.
And being a Christian, Only God himself knows when the second coming will be, he didn't even tell His Son. But we do know that it will not be until all on earth have heard His word, so I have to believe it's gonna be a bit yet.
Good luck!

well i really wouldn't be concerned about that right now because there are a few things that have to take place first depicting that we are in that segment of the last days. it is said that rapture of believing saints will happen which will cause all kinds of accidents: planes dropping from the air, etc. there is supposed to be something called the new world order put into place to control and redirct currency, so at some point you will have to secretly practice christianity because they will have a hand in trying to hush it from public places like courts and schools etc. the UN will move to jerusalem, also there will be two of gods witnesses put on earth to denounce the evil put in place before the glorious appearing of our lord. the important thing to note is that though events will become more and more serious, it will still be harvest time for people to still have the chance to be saved. now do i believe it - most definitely. if you're really interested, there is a "left behind" series that does well in explaining using a group of people from different walks of life who one by one came together to get saved and help save others along the way. its full of suspense, this group of people ride and run, hide through the whole series, but reading this series will cause you to relate to the what ifs for your own life. it will also have you cross referencing with your own bible. in closing, it paints a vivid picture of how real it will be during that time.

imagine about this for a minute: what might want to the Mayans study about the end of the international? Do maximum folk comprehend or care about some thing else Mayan? So why each and each of the hysteria about their calendar? relax. there change into better reason to fret about Y2K, and all of us undergo in concepts what a farce that change into. Nellina--no longer each thing is available. i can imagine of 1000's of completely no longer available issues. That word is overused and would not make experience.

Could be the end of the world, but I doubt it. I mean, the calendar had to end somewhere, right? If the end of the world has already happened before, then it obviously it isn't that bad because the planet is still populated and alive.
Humans always jump to the conclusion that everything is the end of the world.
On the other hand, if we all are going to die, what can we do about it, really?

There are tons of other apocalyptic stories out there from different cultures and religions. It's easy enough to look them up. Of course I don't know what makes the Mayan calendar any less believable than stories of seas boiling, seven seals, and locusts coming out of the earth.
This all begs the question though of what one means by "The end of the world". Is it the extinciton of humans? A general fall into anarchy everywhere? WWIII? Destruction of the planet? The planet will eventually be burnt up by the sun as it expands, millions of years from now. But by then we may very well have the technology to colonize other planets.

“Earth” is frequently used in the Bible to refer to the peoples on the earth. (Genesis 11:1; 1 Kings 2:1, 2; 1 Chronicles 16:31; Psalm 96:1) It is these symbolic heavens and earth of this present wicked world that 2 Peter 3:7 says are to be destroyed by “fire.”—Galatians 1:4.
Peter then gives the joyful news that this old world will be replaced by a new one: “There are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell.”—2 Peter 3:13.
So, I believe that the end of the wicked ones will come soon as the Bible describes in Psalm 37:34 says: "Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. WHEN the WICKED ONES are CUT OFF, you will see [it]." In addition, the planet Earth will not be destroyed because God promises in Psalm 37:29 that "the righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they WILL RESIDE FOREVER UPON IT.

It depends what you mean by "end of the earth".
The end of the earth itself would require either that our sun becomes a red giant and engulfs our solar system (which we believe it will in a few billion years) or that we collide with a large enough object to do serious damage (which we believe happened a few billion years ago and formed our moon).
If you mean not the destruction of the planet but a mass extinction which includes human beings, that's a lot easier. A relatively smaller asteroid collision could do that.

Hi Liz;
My thoughts are we are much closer to the end of the world (thanks to Bush)
than most people think,
I'm not a religious person but the Bible does predict the end of the world.
I have not read the Bible from cover to cover, Yes I do read it occasionally,
Revelations makes a good read

There will be no 'end of the world'
This is an oxymoron that means nothing. It should be more like 'the end of life as we know it' or simply 'the end of life'
All of our deaths will not bring about the end of the planet. The planet will be here for a long time. We are the ones who'll come to an end, not the planet.
