Honestly continue to focus on work at work. I'd completely yet it go. You don't want to be confrontational. In most work environments, bosses look down on those gossips who spend all day at the water cooler. But if you continue to do your job to the best of your ability it will be rewarded.

Be nice to her face as in maintain work professionalism but I wouldn't have any conversation with her about outside interests or anything of a personal nature. People might assume if you are friends you are as vicious as she is.

If someone else comes up to ask you about it, I'd laugh and mention something about being too old to believe everything they hear. Correct them if it's a lie that could damage your reputation but other than that, laugh it off. It will make them doubt anything the gossip tells them--including important things for work.

As long as these rumors are not true, and as long as the owners know better than to act on gossip, you really shouldn't worry about it. Just deal with these back stabbers as little as possible and don't ever, EVER, share any information with them that is of a personal nature about you or anyone else, ever! And if the owners have any questions, they can ask you. Just remember one thing, however, you mention that you found this out from a few co-workers, so you don't really know it FIRST HAND. But, unless you do hear it for yourself, I don't think you should do anything at all. If none of it is true, (the rumors), don't even give it a second thought. And most importantly, don't engage in the same behavior yourself. (you know, saying untrue things about them to get back at them or something.)

It happened to me too. When I got my last job, had been transferred from another section, there was a woman who considered the job should have been hers - she had been there 3 months, while I had been there for 3 years. I was very nice to her and she was very nice to my face but I knew she would cause trouble for me behind my back. I was able to talk to my manager about it and told her of my feelings. Later on that woman got in trouble for taking and using items - retail situation she didn't take them out of the store. She tried telling the regional manager that I was the one who was doing it. Luckily both my manager and store manager already knew of the situation and stood up for me, telling the RM that I was in no way involved. She believed them thankfully.

This happened to me & ignoring it almost cost me my job. The back-stabbing was relentless!
What I'd do if it were happening now, I would go to the boss you are closest to, & explain the situation in the broadest sense (don't mention names). Relate that you are there to do your work & that's all. Reassure them you want to be told if you are not living up to their expectations. Should they hear unkind rumors, they will hopefully remember the conversation & ignore any negative comments. Continue to keep your supervisor updated with progress reports.
Good luck. I hate this type of people.

Hm, do you and I work at the same place? The best advice I can give you is to just stay out of the fray.
