3886 deaths. Subtract the number of noncombat deaths (696) = 3190 combat deaths.

And the real ironic thing is that more US service members died during Clinton's presidency than did during Bush's.

This answer could be misleading. I agree to many, 1 is too many, 2-3 per day and such.
But take into account deaths in Iraq include ALL deaths including non-combat accidental or even suicide. Also, there have been several high death count accidents such as helicopter crashes that have claimed dozens.
You would do better to know how many COMBAT casualties there are. I am sure that info is available through DOD. I believe you would have a number much lower than those quoted by others.
There are no certainties in life. Don't join and get crushed under a school bus leaving the recruiting station. Who can be sure which path is the right path?

To really put this in perspective, ask this question. How many are killed daily in the war on our public roads?

It varies, based on enemy activity. But anytime you get over 1000 people together for any length of time, chances are one of them will die. (This includes Christmas shopping at the mall) So far, it averages out to about 2-3 a day. Not too bad considering there are over 130,000 troops deployed. Just for the record, the military loses more than that due to traffic accidents stateside. Having that many troops deployed is actually saving soldier lives. It's just more newsworthy when a bomb goes off.

if its 3700 as another said or 3800-3900 as some anti war sites say, in the since march of 2003. so in the last 3 and a half years or so.. thats about 3 soldiers a day.

To date 3886 troops have died since the war began.

The war began on 3/19/03.

We have been at war approximately 1350 days.

3886/1350=2.9 soldiers killed per day.

compared to the Civil War (625000 troops killed in 4 years, about 427 per day), it is a fairly successful war in terms of tropps killed

we need an accounting major to answer this question. about 1.83333 troops die a day. this is the total number divided by months we have been to war divided by days in a month which i used 30.

there are actually non-combat related deaths there, too...so the death numbers may be a little different....but 2.9 per day average since the begining sounds right.

You do the math..something like 3,700 during the course of the war. More die from suicides after the war..about 16 Vets per day.
