This is a bit of a complex question for this forum. There are many databases to build and access to drive the kind of forms you will need to develop. If you don't have solid database experience, better to buy a prebuilt product.

The 360 has gotten over its reliability issues from what I've seen. Obviously you aren't especially bent one way or the other on exclusives, so I'd say it's down to which plays multiplat games better, which you'll probably be playing mostly anyhow. Hands down that makes the 360 the best system. I've never played a PS3 game that was better than the 360 version, especially Valve games (Left 4 Dead, The Orange Box). Online, I would say that I prefer Live over PSN. You hear the stereotypes about loud-mouthed Live members, but I've made good friends on Live. On PSN not so much. Plus, the Natal add-on that is coming out for 360 looks like it will change gaming in a big way. Oh, and on the note of those price comparisons: While buying EVERYTHING might make the 360 slightly more expensive, Microsoft lets you get away with not buying the crap that you don't need. Good luck!

It is a bit complex approach to build a POS using MS Access because it has many limitations as compared to other database so best approach is to use the Sql Server for this.
