by rebuilt i mean after changing the stock internals for boosting it. some people say in the long run do the swap is better but some people say the ka24 is better. i know the sr20 is the silvia engine and the ka24 is a truck engine. i know the ka is stronger than the sr20. which would require the most work in the end and which would give me a better 1/4 mile time after working on it more

Well, let's see. The 240SX isn't really good for drag racing. It's good for drifting. The SR20DET is a good motor, and you can mod the hell out of it. If you're really going to drag this car and want to do an engine swap, I'd go with the RB25DET, 5 speed manual.

How about a small block ford or Chevy swap then you can tear out the rear axle. Differential will limit you to about 250 RWP even if you build one up with a fixed spool. Four Cly car 1/4 mile drag racing you really have to do some serious work to slingshot that weight down the track. SR-20 DET is the way to go because turbo charger horsepower comes on gently and the built up locking differential will last a little longer. Now deciding on 5 speed manual or built up automatic? Automatic trans will be 1/2 second faster if properly built. YOU MASH THE GAS and GO

^^^.

If you are thinking about swapping in the SR just go with a RB26DETT. Plenty more power potential then either of those engines with minimal work. Or just sell it and buy a muscle car if you want a car that can only go in a straight line, 240's were built to be driven on tracks that have turns. If you HAVE to stick with either I would go with the SR just because the aftermarket and amount of information on them is enormous. Search SR20det forums, do some searching on the boards, and see what you can find. Look at the guys that are drag racing with SR's and KA-T's, then compare the times and $ spent and make your decision.

OMG i like your avatar! Racing in Drag? They do it in San Francisco each and all the time, case in point interior the Bay to Breakers races each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. of course the platform heels make it extremely confusing, yet a Vicodin or 2 makes one forget the soreness.

none of the above. if you are serious about drag racing swap a RB26 motor or a supra 2jz, or alltogether get a different car because a 240 isn't exactly built to drag.
