I am from Saudi Arabia where we have many industries for chemical and petrochemical engineers. I have a BS in computer sciences.

Now I have a scholarship to do masters degree. I am planning to do Chemical engineering so that I can get a job in theses industries.

Do you think that chemical engineering will be a good combination with computer sciences? I talked with prof., he told me it will be so since there is something called process engineering in which computer programming involved. Do think so?

Is it true that chemical engineers are not needed as many as other engineers?

There is and will continue to be need for chemical engineers (and engineers of many different kinds). Chemical engineering is involved in a huge number of industries beyond petrochemical. Computer skills will be a good match for any engineering discipline because more and more processes are controlled by computers, process data is collected and analyzed by computers. Programing is very important for mathematical modeling of processes and for dealing with very large databases.

Look at the average starting salary for engineering graduates. Chemical engineering has often been the top starting salary but it changes year to year depending on business cycles (which industries are growing the fastest).

Good luck
