The American war of Independence. More Americans fought on the side of the British than the Americans! If it wasn't for the stupidity of Cornwallis and the timely intervention of the French, th isolationist Americans would have lost that one too! Come on Yanks! Read your history! You'll have to do better than this!

We would have been speaking Russian, not German you fool!

Too many people on both sides of the Atlantic getting all puffed up and mouthy in response to this.

To all of those who are gobbing off about the War of independence..... It was a war of independence fools, therefore at that time you were not Americans but you were actually Brits, albeit ones who lived overseas fighting against other Brits. You only became Americans when the succesion from the crown happened.

Also don't forget that many of your early leaders (Like Washington) were ex British Army.

Also don't forget that in the war of independence the majority of the tiny British Army over there were actually Germans (Hessians) and that the French, Dutch and the Spanish took advantage of your little Tea and Taxes temper tantrum to have a go at us globally.

Ever wonder why they sent you the statue of Liberty, Louisiana is full of people with French names and you have so many streets called Lafeyette?

Its because the French fought your war of independence for you simply to try and get their hands on Canada.

Secondly "If it wasn't for us you would be speaking German".....YAWN....

If it wasnt for the Japanese you would have happily sat there listening to Joe Kennedy telling the world we were finished every day until eventually we ran out of food and raw materials.

Also don't forget that if it wasnt for us in the first place you would all be speaking Dutch from your financial capital of New Amsterdam, rather than Mexican which is what you will all be speaking in about ten years time.

Now for the Balance.....

The British armed forces could no longer win a war on their own against any nation bigger than Luxembourg because our stupid succesive governments have constantly scaled them back to the point where Donald Trump has more aircraft in his executive hanger than the RAF, we have just enough ships to cover the deck of one French or American aircraft hanger, and our entire army including cooks desk jockeys and paper pushers wouldnt fill a football stadium.

One of the answerers is absolutely right that the US only uses us to broaden the "internationalism" of their campaigns, and however good our troops are (and they are bloody good) they are never available in enough numbers or in a self supporting fashion to make a real difference except in a special forces role.

I think this question is one better unasked here anyway. You must be aware that it will bring some very dismissive answers from the US and also the Brits none of which are capable of answering the question fairly.

In both world wars without US we would have lost we did not have the power or strength. In the case of the second world war , this was America's fight and not just a European one Although they were slow to recognise it they made up for lost time. Had Germany and Japan joined hands across Asia the whole way would have been lost. In view of the happenings post war and the Cold War the contribution of USSR is often forgotten or discounted

In case anyone thinks otherwise I am a proud Brit and apolitical

i think you have to ask how many wars the british has won with the assistance of the US. however when the parachute
regiment was formed britain began to hold there own. ie
the falklands, the rescue of british soldiers in sierra leon,
afghanistan, iraq, kosovo and then the rest.

Real wars egh, tell the families of those who dies that one!

Anyways since WWI, this is a BS question. There have been very few conflicts we have not helped each other out with in some way! Not because the other needed it, but because of our alliance. There is a reason for this, because we a such good allies, with common beliefs!

This question has no real merit other than to instigate problems between some people in the greatest alliance in history! This craps on the history and pride of both the US and UK, as well as Canada and Austalia who have been right there more times than not as well.

There is a distinct difference of tactics.
The British will win over the hearts and minds of the people in order to gain success.
The Americans will order success and get **** on.
The English have taken over the world before without too many major battles.
Yanks have a lot to learn as all new armies do.

America and the UK work together as a partnership of the willing, not because one necessarily NEEDS the other. You do England as much dishonor with this question as you do America. BOTH militaries are smashingly capable and able to win wars on their own, but due to our strong national bonds we help each other to victory.

You are nothing more than a sh!t stirring twit. Enough people, both UK and USA, have stated the US helped the UK in the major wars and even some of the smaller ones all through the last century. Why would you ask such a question ? A sort of inferiority complex ? We are two peoples with a long tradition of mutual aid, just sit back relax and WE 'll keep you safe.

How many wars have the British won without American assistance?
The difference is the Americans never need the Brits to win a war. They generally just bring them along to appease the world community.
But without the Americans, the British would have lost the major wars of the last century.

It doesn't matter how the Revolutionary War was won..we won it, period.

It seems to me that Britain needs the US much more than the US needs them.
