im moving back to CA for school next month, my car started having problems yesterday and i dont think its a small problem. i was gonna take my car back with me but now im thinking about selling it cuz if it is a major problem with the car then that will take away from the money i need to drive there(i live in DFW) and that will be a major block in the road right now, but if i sell the car i can just ride the bus over there and have an extra several hundred but the school is 30 min from fresno and 3hrs from LA where my other family/friends are and there isnt much to do in the area of the school. should i keep it and find transportation to get to around. i want to make a trip to LA at least once or twice a month..if i dont have a car i could just ride the greyhound and stay with one of my relatives for the weekend and ride back...what do u think?should i keep it or sell it? people will still buy it even if there is a problem but just for 400-500$ less

The cost of keeping a car that will not be that reliable (the idea of you driving on the 5 freeway in a car that could break down scares the mother in me!) in California when you could use the money for school and the odd bus or train ticket seems lead me to think that not bringing it all the way back from DFW is a good idea.

The first step in deciding what to do is to get as much information as possible, so that you are not deciding based on incorrect assumptions!

Have your car checked by a qualified mechanic and see what the problem is, and the cost to repair it! When you know what the cost will be, rather than just guessing at what the problem is, you can then decide what is the best choice based on your situation!

It sounds like you want to have some sort of transportation when you are at school, so you have to allow for the cost of getting around if you do not have a vehicle there!

Only you can decide what is the best course of action!

Good Luck

Sell it and buy a transportation car in Calif. But have the car looked at and see what the problem is. If it is cheep to fix why not? Then sell the car. and gain that 400-500 bucks.

sell it. But if a person notices the problem they are going to offer a lot less than 500 bucks less. More like offer 500 bucks for the car.
