Always the cupboard, UNLESS we happen to buy the "natural" brands like Teddy, which contains no preservatives, so isn't shelf stable after opening. I always buy what is on sale, but prefer not to purchase any brands that require refrigeration since they get SO hard to scoop and spread.

I keep my peanut butter in the cupboard. It wouldn't cross my mind to put it in the fridge, though I'm sure it's just fine either way.

Cupboard...I've never read anything to imply it should be refrigerated after opening. And it's thick enough at room temp; I can't imagine trying to spread it cold from the fridge!
