He doesn't. I told someone I was freaking out about him leaving and being away form him and she said I should talk to him and see about him getting out of his DEP. But i still don't understand. Would him getting out of it mean it's delayed even longer?

PP is correct, DEP is the Delayed Enlistment Program for the USAF. There are more enlistees than slots in Basic, so people sign their contracts at MEPS and then wait to go to Basic. During DEP, enlistees are to contact their recruiter at least once a week, attend Commander's calls, keep clean a nd stay out of trouble.
If you're husband decides the AF is not for him, he can get out of his contract BUT he'll have a darn hard time getting back in if he changes his mind. My husband has already sworn in but he will swear in again when he leaves for Basic. Then, as long as he finishes, he will officially be in the USAF.

The other responders are correct for the meaning of DEP: Delayed Entry Program. Once a person is sworn into the military, he/she may still be in a DEP, but there are no time constraints after the swearing in ceremony. The person could be ordered to report for Basic Training the next day, next week, or next month. As for your husband to get out of DEP, he would have to fail his physical and declared unfit for military duty.

Yeah, Delayed Entry Program.
Him saying he wants to get out of DEP is him saying he doesn't want to be in the military. It's pretty easy to get out of the DEP but why? Excessive tattoos, injury, 'being gay', commiting a crime, other.
If he wants to get out while in DEP, then he may as well get it done and over with ASAP before it's too late. Otherwise you're stuck, then getting out is going to be 100x harder and 100x more punishible for the rest of your life.

Now would be the wrong time to start a family, sweetie. He's about to join the military, which means leaving for boot, then for training, which could take months and months. why don't you just wait until he's settled in his job? that way, you'll be able to have him home during your pregnancy AND he'll probably be able to be there when the child is born.

He is in "Delayed Entry Program."
It means that he is not officially in the military yet and it would be easier now to get him out than later.

Delayed Entry Program. It's what you are in while waiting to ship off to BMT. Why would he want to get out?
