The Summary is going to be difficult but here goes. God always existed. He created angels. No one sinned. (None of the Angles broke the 10 commandments) One day, God created Lucifer, he was the most beautiful angel in heaven. He had a special job too! He was the covering angel for God's throne. Lucifer began to think too much of himself and so he challenged God. He wanted to be like God and be worshiped instead of God. He spread lies about God and convinced 1/3 of the angels to rebel and break the commandments that God had set up. And Lucifer accused God of having rules only to keep the other angels under His command.... not because He loved them.
Well, then humans were created on earth. Lucifer was renamed Satan and he was angry with God. Humans were perfect and had not yet sinned. Satan knew he had no power to harm God directly so he went after God's most precious creation (mankind). If Satan could pull people away from God, it would emotionally harm Him. Satan lied to the first humans and continues to lie to people today. By causing the first humans to sin, he introduced death to mankind. The wages of sin is death. Until that time, the first humans would have lived forever.
Satan lies to people by making them think they don't need God. He makes them feel like they can control their own destiny and that it doesn't matter what they do wrong. He harms them by causing them to break the commandments of God. Sin is breaking the law.
God gave us laws to protect us.
10 commandments.
1. you shall have no other gods before me
(If this is broken- then the other god's might lead you to do things that are against the ten commandments and then it would hurt you.)
2. You shall not make for yourself an idol.
(made idols can not help you in times of trouble)
3.Do not take the name of God in vain
( we should have respect for the one who created us)
4. Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy.
(God made this day as a day of rest for us. He wants to spend time with us! He also knows that humans NEED rest and should not be working all the time)
5. Honor your father and your mother.
(If you break this commandment it will cause conflict in the family and God wants us to be happy and have a peaceful existence.)
6. you shall not murder.
( If you break this one, you are harming others and also harming yourself. God knows a person can not kill another without it affecting them in some way.
7. you shall not commit adultery
( If you break this one, it leads to possible sexually transmitted diseases, not to mention unwanted pregnancies, and a loss of trust in a marriage)
8. you shall not steal.
( It is harmful to yourself and others if people steal.... who wants to loose their things?)
9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
( if you break this commandment, someone might get in trouble for something they didn't do.)
10. do not covet your neighbors things.
(means not to desire things you do not have. Desiring things you do not have or can not afford will lead to taking of things that are not yours and is harmful to all mankind.)
These commandments were given to us by God because He loves us and wants us to be happy and safe. If everyone followed these and never broke even one of them, we would all be much happier. If we have broken even one of the laws, we are guilty of sin and deserve eternal death.
Now, once we realize that God has our best interests at heart. We want to serve him and do things His way. He gave us life and wants for us to have a wonderful life. Unfortunately because of the work of Satan on earth, it has become impossible to enjoy life like we should. Sin has destroyed what God had wanted to be perfect.
However, He has given us the opportunity to NOT DIE for eternity. We can choose to accept the gift of His son. His son, Jesus, came to earth and lived without sin. He was crucified and died anyway. (the wages of sin is death. remember?) Since he was sinless and he paid the price for sin, and then was resurrected, He has paved the way for us to be able to be resurrected too! This means we do not have to stay dead!
Jesus was treated like we deserve so we can be treated as he deserves. God has a perfect eternity waiting for us. One where there will be no more tears or dying. One without depression or tiredness. One that does not have sin in it. In order to gain this eternal life, we must confess that we have sinned and accept that Jesus died on the cross in our place.
Once we do this, we will want to do what God says because we love him.
I hope this has helped some. feel free to e-mail me if you want to talk more about this. I am happy to share.

Well, there are lots of Gods, so there are lots of stories that someone could give you.
But really, the question here is WHY you believe or don't believe.
In my view, if you don't know if you believe in God or not, that's fine. You don't have to make a snap decision, and any reasonable God should understand that if you don't have a reason to believe in him or her, then you won't. Any loving God won't fault you for just being honest about what you think.
But above all, in my view, you should not force yourself to believe just because you're afraid of what might happen if you don't. That's just bowing to fear tactics.
Personally, I think that in order to make an informed choice about religion, it's helpful to really find out what many different religions really teach and investigate them both for their good and not-so-good points. Doing this takes some time but it is the only way to be honest and thorough when considering the truth of the different religions out there.
And in the end, a religion that is really true will be able to give you good explanations in response to any question you ask. So don't be afraid to ask.

The best reason to choose God is when you understand just who Jesus is and what He did for you. This is really all that anyone should talk about when it comes to witnessing to those whom don't know God. It is wrong to throw a lot of doctrine in such people's faces.
So, to that end, I recommend an online book for you to read. No, not the Bible. The Bible is excellent, but it can be overwhelming to someone just trying to come to a knowledge of God. All of these books I've linked are in harmony with the Bible, though.
So, the online book I recommend is listed below. The second online book is how to start your walk with God once you've chosen to do so. Then, the subsequent online books are for when you want to know more.
God bless.

It is a big question and you did not offend me by asking it.
You have received many good answers summarizing God and His Story, so I will follow up with this.
I think the most important thing you can do right now is to ask God to show you who He is. Tell Him you want the truth and ask Him to guide you to it. Ask Him to prove to you that He exists and that He created you out of love and that He wants to have a personal relationship with you.
This is what I did twenty years ago and God honored my prayer because He knew where my heart was. I really wanted to know what the truth was, even though I was anti-Christian at the time.
I was surprised that God gave me the desire to read the Holy Bible and I was even more surprised that, for the first time in my life, I could really understand it as I read. The more I read, the more I realized I hadn't understood what the Bible actually taught. I had just repeated things that I had been told about God and Jesus and the Bible. I was shocked to find out I had been lied to (by well-meaning family and friends and teachers).
God also proved to me that He existed by helping me to do things in my life that I couldn't have done on my own. They were very personal issues and it really got through to me.
I, too, had a hard time believing I needed forgiveness because, according to the world's standards, I was a good person. It wasn't until I compared myself with God's standard (which is perfection because He is holy) that I realized I fell far short of the level required for entrance into His presence and His kingdom. We all fall short, from Saddam to the best person you know.
The good news is that God doesn't turn His back on us and tell we don't deserve to be in His presence. Out of His great love for us, He made it possible for us to become His children. He became a man (Jesus) and paid the price for our sins through His own death. Our part is to believe in it.
It's kind of like this. Let's say you murdered someone you hated. Then you were caught and were found guilty by a jury in America. The jury recommends your sentence: death by lethal injection. You cannot deny that have received justice since you had taken the life of another human being and this is the consequence for breaking the law.
However, let's say the judge is your father and your father loves you too much to see you put to death. He cannot merely make your sentence disappear, for that would be unjust. He has been sworn to uphold the law of a higher authority (the laws of our nation).
But, there is one thing he CAN do. He can pay the penalty for your sin by offering himself to the executioner in your place. That is legal. You are off the hook. That is not justice for you...it is mercy. You don't get what you deserve. Instead, you get love and life and joy, and you now know just how much your father loves you. You do have the right to reject your father's offer, however. He cannot force you to accept His gift to you.
Back in the real world...if I receive justice for what I have done I will go to hell in a nanosecond. Why? Because I have broken every one of God's commandments in my lifetime. Even if I had broken just one, like telling one lie, I would have fallen short of the standard of God's holiness.
I am so grateful that I am not getting (and will not get) what I deserve. I am a child of God not because there is any good thing in me, but because I received mercy and grace and love at the cross of Jesus.
So, that's my summary of the story. I hope it helps.
Take care and feel free to email me,
Gayle

There are so many variations of religion out there. For that matter, there are endless variations of Diety. Everyone has their own ideas & beliefs about religion & faith. They are all very attached to them & a lot will insist they are the only right ones & will try to influence you to believe them as well. Sometimes to the point of being obnoxious.
What you should really do is research. Look into all kinds of religions & spiritual beliefs. Find what will work for you. Don't let anyone stop you from forming your own beliefs, be they Christian or other. This is YOUR life & you need to find what works for YOU. A good start would be altreligion.com. They give you good information on many religions.

Have you ever read the Bible? If you haven't that's where you should start your search for God.
God created Adam and Eve and gave them the freedom to choose to obey or disobey Him, and they listened to the lies of Satan and disobeyed God's one and only command He gave them.
Ever since that time man's RELATIONSHIP with God has been destroyed and every human being born is born with the INCLINATION to sin and rebel against God. All our lies, cheating, stealing etc. are not only a wrong done to other people, but first and foremost a wrong done against the One who made us. This is what is called sin, and God's Word says that the wages of sin is death.
Jesus came to earth to pay your and my death penalty and in that way the relationship with a holy God can be restored again. God does not force you to enter into that relationship, it is an offer that you can either accept or reject.
If you reject it, however, you have to pay your own death penalty and stay separated from God forever.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God." John 1:12-13

I'll make it as simple as possible...God is perfect (without sin). You are not perfect (you have sinned). The wages of sin is death (meaning your sin earns you death). Jesus (God in the flesh) came to earth and did not sin, but was put to death. He conquered death and Hades and was resurrected and ascended into heaven again. His death was payment for all sins, all you have to do is receive that payment. Why? Because God is perfect and Holy and nothing unholy can dwell in His presence (heaven). We become holy by accepting Christ's sacrifice and asking forgiveness for our sin. There is a lot more to it, how sin entered the world, why the need for a sacrifice, how hell came about, etc, but that is it in a nutshell. Feel free to click on my avatar and email me if you wish to discuss it further. I teach youth Sunday School classes and have answered just about every question there is and explained plenty about the Bible. I don't pretend to know it all, or even most, but I will help wherever I can.

Praise God that you want to know Him!
just read this first.
Did you ever tell a lie before? you probably have. so what would that make you? a liar.
Did you ever steal? maybe. if you did, what would that make you? a thief.
Did you ever hate your brother or sister(meaning anybody)? probably. Jesus said that whoever looks at his brother with hate, has murdered him in their heart. so that would make you a murderer.
Have you ever looked at someone and lustes after them? meaning that you wanted to sleep with them. Jesus says that whosoever looks upon someone with lust has committed adultery in their heart. If you did, then you would be an adulterer.
So you should be a liar, a thief, a murderer, and an adulterer. and those arent the only sins you can commit
You may think that god loves you, and he'll just let you go. Say you take that to a court, with some crime youve committed. Only a corrupt judge will lt you go. a good judge will demand justice. The only way that we may be free is through Jesus Christ, who died for your sins. He was given to us by god, to die on the cross for our sins, and take the punishment for us so that we may go free. "For god so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believs in him will not perish, but have everlasting life" John 3:16.
If you want to read the bible, you should start in the new testemant with a study bible(ones with notes on the bottom) and read the gospel of christ. (matthew, mark, luke, and john)
If you chose to believe in god or not, just know that he loves you.
What you did for him to forgive you is just be his child. He just loves his children so much that he offered his son to die for you, and all you have to do is know what Jesus did, and repent for your sins(praying for his forgiveness) and he will forgive you and grant you eternal life.
Reading the bible would be a good idea to get to know god.

great question- Why is it hard for you to live with the idea that someone created you? and also have you ever done anything wrong in your life? Of course you have, we all have - that is called sin- We can all look around and find someone that we are better than, however when we look up and look at God, then we realize that we are all sinners. The story is that God loves you, and created you to have a personal relationship with Him, however from the first man and woman on earth, Adam and Eve we have all sinned and we fall short of His glory- however because of His great love for us, He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross, and anyone that admits that they are a sinner, and confesses their sin (sin nature) and accepts Christ as Savior then you are saved and can have that personal relationship that God wants for us.

Sec...for intellectual struggles, you can find a lot of good reading if you look up authors like Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel. Write back if you want more information.
but in the simplest format...the story. I was created BY God...FOR God...but the wrongs I've done have put a canyon between me and His arms. Because He knows I can never restore myself to purity - He did it for me. He came to us, walked with us, dined with us, and in the end...died for us.
Our story with God...is about reconciliation...about restoring the relationship to where God wants it to be...friends. My prayer today, is for that one part of you which wants to know God, to stay open, to continue seeking answers from those who walk with God, and I want to ask Him to place so many signs of His love for you, in your life.

Agape is love which is of and from God, whose very nature is love itself. The Apostle John affirms this in 1 John 4:8: “God is love.” God does not merely love; He is love itself. Everything God does flows from His love. But it is important to remember that God’s love is not a sappy, sentimental love such as we often hear portrayed. God loves because that is His nature and the expression of His being. He loves the unlovable and the unlovely (us!), not because we deserve to be loved, but because it is His nature to do so, and He must be true to His nature and character. God’s love is displayed most clearly at the Cross, where Christ died for the unworthy creatures who were “dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1), not because we did anything to deserve it, “but God commends His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The object of agape love never does anything to merit His love. We are the undeserving recipients upon whom He lavishes that love. His love was demonstrated when He sent His Son into the world to “seek and save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10), and to provide eternal life to those He sought and saved. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for those He loves.
