Question: My 17 y/o daughter is now talking to a recruiter thanks to her friend LOL. I looked at the weight requirements and she is about 10 lbs. over for a 5'4" female (it's 137).

HOWEVER, her jeans are a size 9, she is not what I would even consider chubby, as she is very active and has muscle, and her breasts are a 36DD so you know where that ten pounds is coming from. The body fat limit is 30% and I highly doubt she is over that considering she wears a 9 on the bottom and has a 36 bra.

Will they waive her ten lbs. over, or will she have to be 137 by the time she LEAVES basic training?

Penn, you are wayyyyyyy off base here! Can't wait to get rid of her? Have you ever seen my other questions about college? Please. I'd rather she'd go right to college in my town but I am not trying to control her life once she gets out of high school, just guide her. If you knew me at all you'd know how much I have invested in her since she was inside me. She is the most important person in the world to me. How dare you.

And Penn, I am sorry about your daughter and I pray that it never happens to mine but she also could get killed in a car accident driving to college or, jeez, in a random mall shooting. I want her to do what makes HER fulfilled, not just makes me feel secure. I can't hold her hand forever.

I believe she has to be in the weight requirements before her ship date. One of the girls I was at MEPs with was over and she did not pass her physical, although Im not sure if that was the reason or if it was something different.

Teresa:
Thank you for being supportive of your daughter's decision... or I guess open to a decision that she is in the process of making... What a blessing you must be to her!!!
I am female, Army, and wish my mother and mother-in-law would be supportive. Its funny because neither of them really have military experience (my mother does a little from the few years she was married to my dad, but mother-in-law not at all!!!) and my Dad and Grandpas who are waaaaaaayyyy protective are very supportive and encouraging. Because they've been there. Because they know what a good thing it is. People are scared of the military and of war, they dont understand it etc. But if half of them would be as open minded and supportive as you... well, we would be living in a different kind of country I think. So I just wanted to say thank you for your support and open mindedness... Im sure your daughter is thankful too. I think if she does decide to join you will be pleasantly surprised by the US Army! (Times have changed btw and it is actually VERY female friendly!!!) I am so blessed by your posts today! I hope all goes well for you and your daughter! I imagine she is just like you... so I would be honored to serve next to her any day. :) God Bless!!!

Do you care at all about your daughter? Why would you encourage or fail to discourage her from joining the army? It's the lowest branch of the military, and the military has never been friendly to women to begin with. Given the "ADHD", it's more likely you just can't wait to get rid of her. Does she realize or have the maturity to realize that she will be stuck with that commitment for years? That there will be no calling you to come get her out? Or maybe I'll be seeing her on this wall.
