If it was used in that era, it was by the upper class. Aluminum foil was not a common household item yet.
Most people would use the "aluminum nail" cooking method.
It still is the best way to bake potatoes.

Possibly, at least aluminum foil was around in the 30's. I don't know how expensive it was, but it was available.
