i have a digital cable box and once in a while glitches will show up on the screen for about 1 second?

Those glitches come from the box itself, it is receiving a bad signal momentarily, I have it once in awhile myself. As for a fix, there is none, except that maybe your cable may need to be replaced either inside connections checked, or the cable outside might need to be cleaned in its connections by a professional.
