you dont have to spend much like $20 will get you your basic fruit vegies and stufflike that it depends what sort of healthy food you want. I ussually buy everything for ham and salad sanga's and just like a packet of mixed vegies and meat to go with it. I am assuming your parents would buy some basics like meat bread milk and that sort of stuff. Let your parents know that they can make small changes even on a budget that are way healthier options. I am a mum with two young children on a budget about $100 a week for a family of 4 and I manage to make healthy meals. I think it is more expensive to buy junk. Anyway I think it great that you want to eat well and I hope your parents will encourage you. I would let them read this and they shouldn't feel like because u are young you don't have a clue. I think they should let you go shopping with them and learn about how much it costs to buy food and that the family will go hungry if it is not done sensibly. The main thing in my house I have trouble with is making sure I use all the fruit and vegies before they go bad, but I am getting really good at that now it takes practise. It is my shopping day today and my vegie draw is empty cause I made a vegie stew and fruit saladtwo days ago to make sure I got rid of everything. I really hope this goes well for you. I am not sure how long it takes for the job permit to come back but you could ring the people you sent it to and ask them to speed up the process for you and tell them why you want a job. I have to say I would be proud to have you as my child you sound like you are going to grow up very smart. Goodluck and I hope this helps

Stick with fruits that are inexpensive like apples, bananas and oranges. Buy some fruit cocktail and add some fresh fruit to the mix. Frozen veggies are also a good way to go too and you won't have to worry about them going bad. I buy the bigger containers of yogurt and use tupperware instead of buying the little guys. I also shop at discount food places. The quality is often the same but cheaper. I don't buy meat from the discount stores but that's just my preference. I spend about $50 a week on groceries and I like to think I eat pretty healthy.

Kudos to you! I have to say that's it's very impressive to see a young teen taking control of their health.
how much you spend really depends on your appetite. the majority of money spent eating healthy will be on vegetables and various protein sources like poultry, fish, meat, etc. depending on where you live there may be some local growers and you can pick veggies up cheaper at a farmers market. rice, beans, oats, etc. are all very cheap and especially when you buy in bulk. to stretch your dolllar check out the local Walmart, etc. or other big chains that sell food. I know out here in Vegas you can even buy a lot of veggies and stuff at the $99 Store.

you should try to a cheap little produce store
they are usually spanish owned and they get fresh fruits and veggies everyday
but the main thing is that the prices are amazing...especially for fruit
I got 3 bags full full of oranges for 3.50!
but if you can find one of those around you... then I suggest just buying frozen fruit/veggies at your local store because they can be alot cheaper that way
also buy pasta and wheat bread for usually pretty low price
don't know about how long it will take you to get your job
but what state do you live
(Im not a pedifiler)
I'm 14 and I live in Florida but the only places to work at 14 are publix, and some chick-fil-as
I've heard of the permits but they havent said about them yet
ohhh and where do register for it

Am I the only one that sees a problem with this? You are 14 therefore legally it is your parents responsibility to feed you! Have you talked to a school counselor about this? You need to address this issue with your parents. Fruits and Veggies are not expensive, I know in my city (LA) there are a lot of ethnic fruit markets, with very cheap fruits, veggies, rice, beans etc. But as a minor you should be focusing on school, and your parents should be doing the shopping, cooking, and caring for you until you are 18! Please talk to someone about this, a teacher etc.
If you just would rather do it yourself then take a home economics class they teach you how to make some basic meals, budget for grocery shopping etc.
Good luck! I feel bad you have to deal with this.

As for the job permit, I took my daughter right into the school to get hers, and we got it on the spot, no waiting. If you want to buy healthy foods for yourself, I would definately suggest fresh fruits and vegetables, not canned. Good things to buy are bags of baby carrots, usually around 99 cents to $1.50, celery, a head of broccoli or cauliflower, a bag of apples or oranges usually runs about 3 bucks, depending on where you live, but you get a bunch of them. Your best bet is to go to your market, take a pad of paper and a pen, and jot down the things you want and how much they cost. I would also suggest a "saver's card" from your local store, as you can save a lot of money on special in store only sales. Good Luck and I admire you for wanting to make your own money and eat healthier!!

Actually healthy food doesn't cost a lot of money, you just need to be able to cook a little. Buy rice and beans and veggies, avoid pre-made or packaged food, shop organic and maybe your parents will learn something.

Most times, healthier food costs more than crap food. Just one of many contributions to the national obesity problem. Peruse store circulars weekly, and see what's on sale, whether it be Healthy Choice dinners, Kashi cereals, whole grain bread, fresh fruit and veggies, etc and take advantage of good deals. Don't be afraid to clip coupons, either! I congratulate you on being so responsible at such a young age.
Good luck.

A cheap place to get food is a chain store called Aldi. If you don't have an Aldi, then just go to another cheap grocery store. Per week maybe get like carrots and a fruit like chopped up cantalope or grapes. And as a snack maybe pretzels.
