Preferably the bulky kind in one of these brands Panasonic, Canon, Nikon, Raydawn, or Sony.

The Canon Digital Rebel series cameras fall nicely into this category. There are several models available starting at about $550.00.
I am a working professional photographer and use the Canon DSLR system (Canon 5D camera bodies) and they work reliably and deliver professional quality images when used properly. There are several other camera systems which also deliver professional quality and flexibility, but in my opinion, the Canon system works best for me in my business.

Nikon D40 6MP or Nikon D40X 10MP. $500 up. Very good camera.
