It's like a mirage to them.
But don't worry, their disobedience only causes them to grow in their own Iniquities.

And what is the final Reward for the workers of iniquity?

America is declining basically because it is being deindustrialised. As all well paid manufacturing and technological work is being exported abroad. America is being divided into the wealthy financial classes, who invest their money globally and the rest who are in low paid, low skilled service work. The main cause of this is the totally unregulated financial laissez faire economy of the last 30 years. This is not an isolated case. Exactly the same thing happened to Britain to a lesser extent from 1875 to 1914. Britain's industrial base withered away as the wealthy neglected to invest in British industry which started to lose out to the growing powers of America and Germany who both protected their native manufacturing bases through tariffs and direct government intervention. Also it doesn't help that the main burden of taxes fall on the middle classes and the poor as the wealthy avoid their fair share by exporting their income off shore. To say that something as abstract and peripheral as atheism can cause the decline of a country and economy is either very stupid or very dishonest

Actively trying to convert people just makes them angry and resentful. I was an atheist for a while partly because I was angry about how self-righteous and bossy a lot of Christians act.

Now I'm an agnostic. I'm open to ideas, but I'm not sure what I believe. And the reason I relaxed a little bit and stopped declaring that I thought Christianity was absolutely wrong is because Christians that I knew basically said--"Here is what I believe, but I'm not going to try to force you to believe what I believe". Well, they didn't say it out loud, but that was how they acted.

I think that the best thing that you can do to promote Christianity is to avoid pressuring people or trying to make them feel bad about themselves.

You can lead by example by living a life of Christian virtue rather than just talking about it. This would go a long way because most non-Christians are very aware of the hypocrisy of some Christians who talk about the virtues but don't act upon them.

Also, be open to discussing religion with people. Don't force it on them, but let them know that you have beliefs and that you are available to discuss them if they choose.

Above all, make sure you actually study your religion. Being knowledgeable about your religion and exploring different viewpoints is important. If you just spout different things that you've heard without really being educated, you aren't going to guide anyone to God.

I don't think it's so much on the rise as it is we are less afraid of identifying ourselves as atheists when polled.

But the Christian polling outfit, the Barma Group, has noted with alarm the current generation is more inclined toward atheism/agnosticism.

There are no souls. That is a human construct.

Come and get me here in Mississippi if you feel threatened by freedom.

There is statistical evidence to support the claim that atheist and related belief systems are on the rise in America. Largely, this has been fueled by--according to surveys of those "converted" to atheism--the growing perception by many Americans that evangelical Protestants have gained too much political and cultural power and become a danger to the American way of life. In fact, there is a direct correllation between the number of times people report they have been "witnessed to" and their likelihood to become overtly atheist as opposed to simply nonreligious.

If you wanted to stop generating so many atheists, maybe you good Christian people should check your own behavior. Maybe all those anti-gay rants, all that protesting at abortion clinics, all that ludicrous abstinence-only sex ed in schools, the Terri Schiavo fiasco, the grotesque failures of the New Right in political power--all that is making your religion look not just bankrupt, but dangerous. That is the primary force generating new atheists--you Christians.

Why don't you good Christian people consider how your unacceptable conduct is contributing to frustration with religion. Those of us in minority religions are getting tired of being lumped in with you by atheists who have come to be opposed to all religion.

Well im afraid Faith has an inverse relationship with intelligence.
The only way to keep Atheism out of America would be to gradually make everyone dumber.

"Good Christian people"? Saying you want to "help" turn atheists away from "ugly grasp" and "save us souls" doesn't sound like a good sign to me.

It is sad that we are in an apostacy (without God) and living in a culture of death. As Christians, we need to pray and fast for those who are in worldly traps that take them nowhere. Divine intervention is what we need; we cannot do it alone. We are all God's children - knowingly or not.....He IS there, if we turn to him wholeheartedly with humble and contrite hearts.

The more that Christian fundamentalism rears it's ugly head, the more people see it's ugliness and it causes folks to question what they believe. 'Not that", seems to be a common answer. Ironic, ain't it.
