I view the term "god" akin to "deity" - something that is more powerful than humans (to put it loosly). I don't view it as any particular god, as there is no name attached to it! Simply saying God doesn't mean the Hebrew god (capilized or not) - it could mean Pagan gods, nature, ect. Depending on your view, it doesn't have to be a living creature or something to communitate with. Of course, this is MY opinion (brought up by how some people get all upity with the "In God we Trust" thing on US currency).

So, what does the simple term "GOD" mean to you?

Stretch, yawn, shake, "Bark, Bark!!!"

God introduced himself to me about 30 years ago while I was serving in the Army in NJ

I sensed him at a church I had gone to reluctantly with a guy who I had previously made fun of for being a "Jesus Freak"

The people were singing and I was just sitting there waiting for the whole thing to be over. slowly, I became aware of a strange sensation, which grew very strong. I can only say that I knew some one or something was actually absorbing the songs.

I began to question my sure foundation of "UNBELIEF"
I thought to myself, "Could this be God?" If there truly is a God, I should try and know him/her/it.

About a week later, I went forward for prayer to receive Jesus into my heart.
That wasn’t enough. I started reading the Bible and praying and about three nights later, on my bunk, after lights out, I began to have a serious talk with God. I said, “God, I’ve never really hurt anyone except myself. I may do some things that are bad for my health (take drugs, get real drunk) but I don’t hurt other people, so if I’m a sinner, show me my sin.”

In that instant, I remembered things I had done even as a child and many things afterwards that had indeed hurt various people though not physically.
I began to cry and hurt deeply about what I had done and I asked God to forgive me. When I did, he showed me Jesus on the cross and I knew it was for me and that I was forgiven.

There was no doubt in my mind that God was present there with me at that moment. I was in that moment, forever changed.
This is what is referred to as being borne again.

God means everything to me!

Wow. I guess it depends on the context in which it's used and what exactly we're referring to.

If I hear someone I know to be Christian, or monotheistic, I assume they are speaking of the Aramaic Deity in some form or another.

If I hear a Pagan at my church use it I know they can mean several things. They could be referring to the God of Abraham, The Horned God of Wicca, The Green Man, or one of the more specific Gods of their specific Pantheon (normally their Patron God if they simply refer to it as "My God"). Or they could be talking about the idea of the Absolute. I normally take into consideration, who I'm talking to, what their beliefs are and what we are talking about in order to find what meaning of "God" they're referring to.

Now, on a personal level, the meaning of the word sheerly for myself?

It means every God in existence. It means My God, Hades. It means someone to guide me, comfort me, and help me in my journey through life. It means an angry parental figure when I try to do crap I know I shouldn't be doing. It means a proud father when I succeed in my goals. It means a teacher to help me learn. It means the knowledge that no matter how alone I feel I will never be totally alone. But More important than anything else,

It means a friend, who knows me better than anyone else (sometimes better than I know myself) and who is my friend, not despite who and what I am... but because of it.

That is what I mean when I talk about My God.

When I think of the word "God" I feel like I shouldn't be thinking about it. Like it's not my place to define the undefinable. I'm just some super-flawed meat-sack on a little blue stone, floating through space. Who am I to be so bold as to catagorize "GOD" and put "GOD" on a shelf with all the other appropriate items?

To me God means loving creator. Someone who cares and gives second chances. Even though he doesn't answer quickly he does answer. Sometimes the answer is no.
