There are four reasons:
1 Explain WHY we are on this Earth, not how, the how is for the science nerds to explain.

2 The Bible provides a moral code to live by

3 Inspiration of what's to come and a reason to live

4 Consolation, and in my Grandmother's case, she believes in God so she has someone to Blame for the death of her husband this year.

It's not a very good reason to believe in God but it works for her.

Because He loves me and watches over me. Making sure that I live my life the best I can no matter what obstacles he puts in my way. I know he is just testing me.
I can see G-d everywhere. Just looking at the stars at night is proof enough for me. they are so beautiful and mysterious. It must be a work from G-d.

Most of the believers I've talked to say they believe in God because they have faith because they believe in God because they have faith because they believe....

That's not what they literally said, but that seemed to be the gist of it. Conversing with them reminds me of NASCAR, a race around a circular track punctuated by the occasional fiery crash.

Because they're afraid...

I bet if there was no heaven or hell you wouldn't believe. And that sums up everything there is to know about your belief...

Hope for a reward and fear of punishment.

EDIT: Of course, there is the possibility that you're not emotionally empty, but an intellectually bankrupt believer. The kind of person who says "Well, how did we get here?", but refuses to take those thoughts to their logical conclusions....

There is no good reason to believe. Release the mental crutch and know that you have the ability to handle life all on your own and with the support of friends and family.

There is insufficient empirical evidence to support the hypothesis of a god or gods.

1.Because you are going to hell if you don't.
2.Because he created you.
3.Because he wants you to have a relationship with you and use you to save others and so you don't spend eternity in hell.
4.He is the one and only God.
5.What else are you going to look forward to if you don't?

You believe in God because you were taught about a god by your parents, your school and your church etc.

Read just one book on evolutionary biology or cosmology and then tell me you still believe in such superstitious nonsense.

I'm guessing you're American, and therefore extremely gullible.

Technically, if people wanted to be intellectually honest with themselves about the world, they shouldn't believe as there is no evidence.
