Well, I've been listening to the Depression Cure available here:
http://www.3-minute-depression-cure.com/
and as it turns out, depression has an actual function in the body!
According to them, depression is what you feel when your brain is repairing itself, or re-writing information (like a computer). It is meant to be a temporary state, but since the triggers for it are so subtle and internal, many people get stuck in it!
I was one of those people - not enough money, boyfriend leaving me, no friends - you name it, I had it. I was depressed a LOT! I have to say though, that website helped me a lot, and I understand depression MUCH better now!
And I'm happy! Yay!

Two type of depression ; 1. reactive depression is when peole get depressed about the loss of a loved one or loose their job. 2. endogenous depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain ; the brain stops producing "happy hormones" which make us feel good. This can happy to anybody and there is no real explanation for it.
Sometimes reactive depression can lead to endogenous depression.
Endogenous depression is further divided into uni-polar (feel bad all the time ) and bi-polar depression (massive mood swings....can feel really bad then really good)

Depression can be caused by a number of outside influences. But it is our own interpretation of what is happening that brings us down. This is something that everyone deals with, but the good news is, is that it is not permanent. If you can view any change in your life whether it is good or bad as an opportunity and not a dissapointment, you are one step closer to happiness.
The most important thing to remember is to always stay positive. Don't hold any grievances or grudges. Resentment is like drinking poison. You wouldn't drink poison in hopes of killing your enemy, would you?
Forgive yourself and forgive others and never ever judge yourself or others. Because every decision you make is the right one for you...Cheers!

in a world with so much you can have, if you succeed completely it is hard not to want alot of it, and because there is always a bigger TV a louder STEREO and a faster CAR unless you always have the best of everything, you will not be completely happy with it..
as for your life, most people have a hole they try to fill with the wrong thins, as i listed above, tv's car's stereo's, while thats all good and fun, 99999times out of 10000 the material is not what you need in order be to the happy you are hoping for, so in my opinion mixed with the social engineering thrust upon us from media hype and television surreal celeb shows, it encourages us to look froward to these "material things" that will not help one bit, after about a week or so.
furthermore, i think it is not what we have or don't have that we are depressed about, i summarize that it is a lack of satisfaction with the person we have become that forces us into depression... most people have sacrificed their morals, values, and beliefs, all too willingly and because of that.
we are unhappy, with all the things in the world.
on one other note, all of this "caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain" stuff.. while that may be part of the reason, what you need to get to is why that is there, and what causes that, and i believe part of it is because of the reasons above.

a clinical term for a state of intense sadness, melancholia or despair that has advanced to the point of being disruptive to an individual's social functioning and/or activities of daily living. So if they go through all of that.. that's why they get depressed

It's all brain chemicals and hormones. Sometimes too much are secreted, sometimes not enough. If they are unbalanced, the person can't keep his life under control.
Depression runs in families. So these abnormalities in the tendency to secrete/not secrete these hormones is actually a genetic problem.

People tend to get depressed because of mental and/or emotional problems. Or intense incidents such as a death or accident. Or they have some sort of neurological disorder.
