I hit a parked car when I was driving my mom's car, and we didn't want to go through insurance, but they called not wanting to get an estimate because they do not plan on fixing it and wanted me just to pay them $1000. My mom's car has more damage then their car does, and in reality all it needs is touch-up paint. But I was just wondering how long do they have to turn it in to insurance?

The solution to the problem is very simple! Tell them that you want 3 estimates, and you will pay them based on the estimates. It is quite possible that the car that you hit has more than $1000 worth of damage, that is not much damage at today's prices!

It may be that they are just trying to get more than the damage, because they think they have you over a barrel! Require three estimates, and if they will not do that, then tell them that you are sorry, but they can sue you! You are willing to pay for the damage, but you want proof of the cost!

Either they will get the estimates, or they will forget it and collect nothing!

There's no time limit. A month is reasonable.

FOR YOUR PROTECTION I WOULD TURN IT IN NOW BEFORE THIS GETS OUT OF HAND.
