i have seen several inferences in this area that catholics are not true christians. i cant figure it out. catholics are the foundation of christianity, they decided what went into the bible, the mass is centered around the bible, peter whom jesus called his "rock" was the first pope, the whole church and sacraments are christ centric. why the intolerance?

First, I have to defend our SACRAMENT of confession since that seems to have come under attack for some reason. It is the effort. It is the showing to God that you are not just going to privately ask forgiveness but that you are going to go before an ordained individual and confess through a holy act. Yes, I can ask God for forgiveness on my own, but I have faith that not by my words alone can I be forgiven but by my actions and part of that is doing the penance given to me. A few prayers may not seem like much to some one outside the Catholic church, but the effort and the prayer is important. And many times the priest gives further penance than just prayers. I have been told to go out and do something to show my contrition many times. Stop picking on something that you don't understand. Just because you don't do it doesn't mean it doesn't hold value to us who do. I feel it is rude to act intolerant when the exact question asked why others are doing so.

As a Catholic, I had a Baptist friend whom I went to one of her services with her. As I sat there listening, their...reverend? (don't know what it is called)...said that Catholics worship Mary. I was shocked because I know this isn't true, as a Catholic. We don't worship the saints or Mary. The intolerance is based in the desire to know everything and more than that to be right. Since the Catholic church came into being, only one religion has been formed which claims a direct connection to God. This is Muslim through the prophet Muhammed. Splinter denominations have trouble with the concept of not being of direct religious lineage and in an effort to draw people away from the Catholic church, degrade it. The Catholics are not the only religion to have done things for which it needs forgiveness.

I would say it is the same reason some people have intolerance toward different sexuality, race, or beliefs. If you can't know you are right, how can you say they are wrong?

I hope there is no intolerance. I think in this day and age people are suspicious of authority but I know a Priest who was an Anglican (Episcopalian) and went to become a Roman Catholic because he thought that synods were the wrong way of making decisions.
In my book Catholics are Christians and I have many good Catholic friends within the ecumenical movement.

Alright the pagan is going to put her 2 cents in. I've always found it amusing that most other christian groups do not count the catholics among them unless it's for a survey to prove that they have the greatest number of followers. The rest of the time they consider them no better than closet pagans. I've been told this by several of my catholic friends. So what gives christians? Are they w/ us or w/ you. They can't just be part of your group when it's convient for you.

You're going to get answers saying that Catholics "preach a false gospel", worship false idols, and so on and so forth. I think it's all a bunch of crap. A Christian, regardless of the denomination, is someone who worships Jesus Christ as the son of God and the saviour of mankind. The last I checked, that belief is at the heart of the Catholic faith.

Catholicism was created as save your *** religion by Constantine he was not sure if Christianity was the real deal so he confurted just in case
I do not under stand why the catholics think that they need to ask the pope for forgiveness when all you have to do is have a relationship with the lord and ask for forgiveness
I would assume that it is a roman thing

Because some of these little groups of fanatics want to claim the title of "Christian" for themselves, and themselves alone; and they go out of their way to try to disprove anything and everything about the Catholic faith as a way of making themselves feel better about their own obvious hypocrisy. They do the same to other Protestant denominations, too. It's easy to be deliberately ignorant of history if the facts get in the way, after all.

Actually, the foundation of Christianity is Judaism, you just added in Jesus.

Food for thought.

Idolatry- worship of saints, items, and every other thing but God
Purgatory- your friends and family can buy you out of hell with cash. Causing many to be evil tyrants to people.
Mother Mary- The bible says Jesus and the Holy spirit are in you , so why would you bow and pray to Mary ? To make Jesus and the Holy Spirit bow with you.
Baptism- A baby baptism is cute, But adults have to be baptized as a decision of faith.
They help the pope but you never see the money helping their poor. EVEN though they are the greatest financial institution in the world. Not one dime to save a starving child.
Rituals do not replace faith, Faith saves not rituals.
I could go on but the point is made.

I have never said Catholics aren't real Christians. What I have said was I don't need to confess my sins to a dude in a wooden box - I go straight to the real deal - God himself.

not everybody who is in a denomination has accepted Christ as their Lord and personal savior.

also, by accepting Christ you always have to live Christ-like. meaning you have to follow His word. a lot of man made doctrines are not in line with God's word. you either take it all or none of it.
