Tell your parents that you appreciate their opinions, but you want to try something new without being too bold. Just let them know that they can trust you, and let them go with you to the hair appoitment and talk to the colorist themselves in case they have any questions or concerns.
I suggest 3 or 4 shades lighter than your natural hair color if you're wanting to dye the ends. If you have dark brown, try going for a medium brown with a hint of red. If you have dark auburn hair, try going to a medium-dark honey or caramel color. Since you want it to be noticeable but still conservative (for your parent's sake), I think that would be a good choice.
Good luck!

Depends on how old you are... I have a 13 yr old daughter who I let get highlights.. only 2 shades lighter then her natural color. And she paid for the hair color. I consider myself to be pretty open minded,, but age and shade of color is a big factor.
See if you can come to a compromise... maybe use a temporary color 1st.. something that washes out in a few wash's.

find pictures of girls who have simple low lights like you want. find only very tasteful pictures of nice updo's and stuff and show them a bunch of classy girls as examples. they might see that changing your hair doesnt mean changing your personality! also, tell them that you are going to be in lots of pictures this christmas and you have to look extra special so you can remember the holidays fondly. tell them if you cant get your hair done you at least need some new clothes. win win situation!

So long as you live in their house, you have to follow their rules.
Why don't you ask them if you could use a temporary dye, and if they don't like it, you won't make it permanent?
