That is a tough one. I think you should mention that people have different beliefs about the world, but that it doesn't mean they are wrong.

How religious can a 7 year old really be? Does the child really understand what they believe or were they just told what to believe by their authority figures? If this child has never really thought about religion, perhaps you could initiate that with an age appropriate conversation. The content of that conversation would depend on your reasons for approaching this topic.

How religious can a 7 year old be? Mine thinks that the Care Bears are real somewhere. Actually, I guess that's a good example. Just be ready to explain the truth to him or her when they're old enough to really understand things.

Make sure that (s)he understands the beliefs of ALL religions and why you are not religious. If (s)he is educated in only one religion, any decision (s)he makes regarding religion will be very biased in favor of that one. Only once (s)he has a broader knowledge of all of them can (s)he make an educated decision on which religion is best for her, including having none at all.

Does your seven year-old claim a specific religion? Steer your child from the harmful ones... Christianity, Islam, etc.

Be open minded to your kids search for spirituality. You can be spiritual without being religious. I'd suggest finding a good Church though because at some point he'll want to go...Check out www.uua.org for one near you. PEACE!
