i know st.nick was a real person, this is my moms question, she was raised as a christian, and in her church, she was taught it was jesus's bday, and at the same time, was told ot behave because santa was coming , so why does santa relate to jesus, why would you want to celebrate jesus's bday, and yet tell kids to watch out because santas coming and behave, shes just curious(once again, moms question) if its celebrateing a bday, why not just celebrate a bday, and why do you have to behvae to celebrate someones birthday? THATS her question

Santa or St. Nicholas (who was a real person of kindness and generosity who distributed gifts to poor children at Christmas) is part of Christmas representing the "gift of giving, sharing, community, love, forgiveness and joy. This is celebrated at the same time as the Birth of Christ, because all of these charitable acts are Christian as taught to us by Jesus in the Scriptures. The Christmas Tree however, is also brought into the celebration from long ago, being a way of celebrating the plentiful fall harvest coming in. People would go outside, cut down a tree or even leave it in the woods, and decorate it for the winter. This was originally a pagan celebration, now brought into the Christmas celebration only as a decoration, not a religious symbol. One can celebrate Christmas without a tree and still be Christian.

Just the kind of question you'd expect from an MCR fan.
Santa, is a material that North American countries made up to get money from parents. They got the whole idea of Santa from St. Nick.
Most of the other countries don't believe in a f*cking man called Santa. I mean who would be an idiot to believe there is actually a guy who sits on his reindeers delivering presents around the world.
F*ck, that is not what Christmas is about. And we Christians believe that Jesus Christ was born in December, though I am not sure about the date. For Christmas we should celebrate The New Born King [Jesus], not some fat idiot flying around in the sky.

I don't tell my kids that Christmas is Jesus' birthday. I tell them that's the day we celebrate the fact that Jesus is born. Nobody knows what day it was exactly because people didn't keep calendars then or track birthdates the way we do now.
As for Santa, Saint Nicholas is a historic figure. He was a Christian who lived in Turkey and actually did a lot to help people in need. The "santa" tradition is based on St. Nicholas. My kids do know all about Saint Nicholas, but they don't think some guy in a red suit stuffs himself down the chimney to bring them toys.
Feel better now?

Today, most Christians know that Christmas isn't Jesus Birthday.
But Dec.25 3BC was the first Christmas. This is when the planet (King Jupiter) stopped (apeared like a stopped star) over where Jesus was in a house months after He was born in a Manger. It was the Magi (wise men) who brought gifts to the New Born King. They found him in a house. They were the ones who were following the star that moved then stopped.
In the newest technological astronomy study, this is the understanding from the new info. http://www.bethlehemstar.net
I don't tell my children to believe in the Santa Clause. I tell them that we can pretend. But I do say there was a St. Nicholas who believed in Jesus & who gave gifts to children.

I believe Jesus Christ was born in April, Christmas is when celebrate his birth. This is what I have taught my children. As for Santa Clause, I dress up like him in the movies to pass out presents on Christmas morning, I do think my children have always been able to tell who I was.....
Santa represents giving, patterned after St. Nick (a real person) the reason giving at Christmas time to to remind us of the ultimate gift of our savior to us, the atonement of Jesus Christ.

We choose to celebrate his birthday on Christmas. The date being specific is not crucial. Santa is a nice idea, it's better than Satan, right? The consumerism is what should be bugging people. Not Santa Claus. Saint Nick was a real person however.

I see some of the questions are becoming truly dumb. Does the questioner realize that not only is Christmas about Christ, but it is also about Santa Clause, some reindeers , Salvation Army bell ringers, gifts, children laughing, and a general permission for people to go off their diets.
The fear that grips some at this time of year, and their attempts to deny the emotionality rising within them is truly amazing. The fear people have of their emotions causes them to push their thinking into high gear so as to try and mask what to others is a wonderful experience of emotionality.
The point is to get involved in feeling good and excited and who cares who we "blame" for this opportunity? If you must bury yourself in negativity, at least have the good manners to do it by yourself. Instead of projecting your fear upon us, why not try something different this year? Try beating yourself up. Run into doors, drip liquids on yourself, stub your toes, each food that you hate, and by all means do not watch "It's a wonderful life".
Peace

This is why true Christians should be honest at all times especially to their children.
The truth would be Dec. 25th is not Jesus' birthday. It is a pagan holiday adopted by the RCC.
Santa has nothing whatever do do with Jesus on any day. It would be better not to lie to children.
