My brother didn't shut down my iMac G4 properly. Now when I go to turn it on the screen stays at the start-up screen (the 1st screen that shows the Apple symbol and the little loading circle) that shows the loading indicator. All it does is goes around in circles and doesn't move on to the next screen. What can I do to fix it? Help please. Thanks!!

Well, since this is an Apple computer you can:
A) Throw it out
B) Take it to a Genius Bar

I personally own an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac, and I -LOVE- it. I'd have rathered a MacBook Pro, however, since you can't upgrade laptops anyway.

Before taking it to the nearest Apple store/dealer as Icy suggested, try doing a hardware test yourself to see if any problems can be found. If you still have the Restore CDs/DVDs that came with the iMac, pop the first one in and hold down the Option key when you start the machine. After spending a minute or two processing, you should see a few options on the screen, one of which is something along the lines of "Apple Hardware Test" or "AHT".

Seeing as it's getting partway through starting OS X, I'm not sure if it even could be a hardware problem, but I don't know how simply shutting the Mac off could cause such serious software issues. If you can't find anything wrong yourself, or you're not sure what the results mean, by all means bring the sucker in. :)

i will wager your buddy had an exterior no longer basic force related to his Mac. Have your buddy try this: - close down the gadget - connect purely the keyboard and mouse to the G4 - no longer something ELSE! to start into secure Mode (to secure Boot), try this: a million. be beneficial the laptop is close down. 2. Press the ability button. 3. right this moment when you pay attention the startup tone, carry the Shift key. The Shift key ought to be held as quickly as achieveable after the startup tone yet no longer till now. 4. launch the Shift key once you spot the grey Apple icon and the form indicator (sounds like a spinning equipment). throughout startup in Mac OS X v10.4 or later, you will see "secure Boot" on the login window, which seems whether you oftentimes log in rapidly. Now have your buddy run Disk Utilities--> First help to repair all permissions on the initiate force. (to go away secure Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the laptop oftentimes, without keeping any keys throughout startup.) close down the Mac and reattach all different contraptions. initiate and each thing ought to be high quality.

Turn the computer clear OFF and wait 5 minutes and then hit the POwer button and restart it.
Sometimes this can be caused by Low or bad Battery.
