A quote by Joseph Smith:

"In the evening I received the first degree in Free Masonry in the Nauvoo lodge, assembled in my general business office"

"I was with the masonic lodge and rose to a sublime degree"

Author: Joseph Smith

why is this a problem

what do freemasons beleive?

Both mormonism and masonry refer to the Melchiezedek priesthood. In the scottish rite of freemasonry the 19th order is called the Grand Pontiff. It's during this ceremony the candidate is annoited with oil and made and procliamed a priest forever in the order of melchiezedek.
Hebrews 5:5 9, however tells us, that Chrsit Glorified not himself to be made high preist but was called of God an high priest after the order of Melchizedek. But masons, mormons and occultists glorify themselves and take on themselves the honour of priesthood that was given to Christ alone

what do you guys make of this?

in the eyes of Joseph Smith a higher freemason that you who knows what his new world order cult is about you are wrong

In the eyes of freemasons who have the order of melchizedke you are wrong

in the eyes of Jesus who alone has the right to be called melchizedek you are wrong

stop defending what has already been explained

ask in your lodge about the order of melchizedek, then read your bible and find out who alone possess that title

Freemason teaches you to be your own god,
while glorifying a supreme being who isn't god, but thinks he is.....

hmm i wonder who that could be?

from a Freemason perspective it is rubbish... freemasons do not glorify themselves - quite the opposite they are taught humility and to be in awe of God's majesty (however, since freemasonry is NOT a religion, it leaves it to the individual freemason to define God for himself - so that a Freemason can be a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist etc...)

Mormonism is a religion; so there is a huge difference there.

to some other responses...

* plainly self evident if you like to take the misinformation of someone with a personal agenda (to make profit off of your assumed knowledge, fear, paranoia and ignorance) as truth...for the rest of us that like to evaluate information against evidence, it is plainly false

* what is all make believe??? if it is, why do you bother responding? do you get some make believe pleasure out of it?

* Alex --- that's an intelligent response...

* there are 3 degrees in masonry, anything above that is from an appendant body; there are actually appendant bodies that go up to 99 degrees (maybe more now, who knows...) what nation are you from that you claim all the ruling families are masons??? there is no country ruled in such a way - certainly not the USA or UK. the only connection between Mormons and Masons is that Smith was, for a short time, a Mason. There is no Illuminati, at least no group that can show a connection to the original Bavarian Illuminati that was born and died out over 200 years ago... just a bunch of fiction and conspicary writers nowadays... Benny Fulford is one of them (fiction/conspiracy writer)...

* Most freemasons I know are Christian, why do you think they are tryin to de-christianize everyone??? not that everyone is a christian (there are more buddhist, hindus, and taoists that anything else...) christianity is the 4th most popular religion, followed closely by judaism and islam

The Mormons and Freemasonry are not the same, and are not linked as groups by any official capacity.

The closet viable "links" between The Mormon Church and Freemasonry stems from the Mormon's own early history where it's legends and "fables" were introduced.

It is not hard when seeing the hiramic legend in Freemasonry to notice similarities in the creation of the Gadianton Robbers, although for obvious reasons Joseph Smith Jr. never explicitly confirmed such things as it would invalidate Mormon teachings.

A number of early Church members were masons Heber C. Kimball , Joseph Smith Jr. to name a couple.

However the Church had no formal relationship with Freemasonry until the early 1840s, when Smith was urged to form a Masonic Lodge by a number of Mormons who were also Masons.

Bennett, who at the time was a newcomer to Mormonism, gained a large influence and apparently "encouraged" his church members to join the lodge and vice versa.

Not overly sure of the accuracy but some have written the Bennett, in mixing Mormons and Masonry almost developed a hybrid form of masonry, not regular Freemasonry and not Mormonism, but a mix of the two.

LDS historian Reed Durham writes:

"By 1840, John Cook Bennett, a former active leader in Masonry had arrived in Commerce and rapidly exerted his persuasive leadership in all facets of the Church, including "Mormon Masonry". ... Joseph and Sidney [Rigdon] were inducted into formal Masonry ... on the same day..."

Mormon temple worship does share a number of symbols, signs, and clothing that is also found within Freemasonry however it is not the case that these symbols represent the same things in both organisations, which in actual fact they dont, and the teachings are not interchangeable.

Greg Kearney, LDS member and Mason, argues that Joseph Smith "borrowed" from the Masonic ritual.

Thus, aspects of the ritual can be considered distinct from the temple endowment, which has in later years shed some of the Masonic symbolism, as it is not as relevant to today's audience.

The linkage/similarities stem from a mason "borrowing" aspects from Freemasonry to help establish a number of elements for the new Mormon movement as it grew.

Masonry is a fraternity that does good works, they don't have a God nor holy book, but to join you must believe in a God.

Mormonism is a religion based on revelation to Joseph Smith and other prophets of the Mormon church.

They both have sacred ceremonies. Mormonism borrowed the rituals from Masonry but the covenants are completely different. The meanings of each ritual is different from each other so they aren't the same. There is no occultism in them at all.

Masonry has been around a long time. There are 33 degrees...and 13 degrees that are secret above those degrees. All the ruling families of this nation are masons. There are masons in almost every religion..there are hindu, buddist, christian and jewish, masons.

I have known about the masons for years..and the mormon connection. Also the Jehovah Witnesses were started by masons. Many baptists are masons..and their is a strong following in the Roman Catholic Church.

The Asian Illuminati is upset with the American/European Illuminati..and is telling them..no more war. We are in for quite a change.

If you think there's no difference between Mormons and Masons, you are ignorant about both groups. They are quite distinct.

I didnt know js was a mason. I would say, if your morman, get out of it, because masons are not an organization of lovers of christianity, they hope to de-christianize all of us and over throw all religion.
