Today when i got off the bus my left knee started to hurt really bad but my right knee was perfectly ok. At one point the pain was so bad i could hardly walk. It lasted 5-10 minutes and it went away but hurt when i went up steps. I could walk with no problem but the pain was so bad i could hardly continue. Now it seems to have come back but not as bad. I had wondered whether it was a nerve getting squeezed by something. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm 18 in case that helps.
thanks

It could be a number of things. I had knee pain since I was in high school. I played basketball and eventually they told me I had a bone on bone condition in which the cartilage was wearing away. It would give me trouble off and on. I also had a cyst near my knee and a problem with the quadriceps muscle in my left leg being weak and that contributed to the pain as well. It used to be so bad that I would avoid stairs at alls costs. It still bothers me, but I can walk up stairs fine most of the time now. X-rays showed the cyst (which they said wasn't as much of the cause as the weak muscles were). I was eventually giving physical therapy to improve muscle strength. It involved lots of calf raises, walking, resistance strengthining (via a rubber band like apparatus) and stretching. I believe the term the doctor used was Chondromalacia.

Thank you for asking us at Yahoo but I would suggest you to consult an orthopaedic doctor.

If you are having locking, popping knees, you should have it checked. It could be your meniscus(this is surgical)

Although you are young, could be arthritis.
Try to use tylenol or advil...see if it goes away
