There are no characteristics that all Christians hold in common. There is no universal doctrine, dogma, ceremony, or religious book that all Christians share. There are denominations, for example, who believe that the teachings of Jesus were only applicable to first century Jews (and not modern Christians). There are Christians like Marcus Borg who only accept the moral and social teachings of Jesus, but do not believe that he was divine or divinely inspired in any way. There are Christians who believe that Jesus was not a historical figure, but only a Jungian archetype invented by early Christians. There are Christians who believe in the Bible, but there are also Christians who do not believe in the Bible. Many (most) Christians believe that only certain parts of the Bible that are authoritative in any way. Christians also share no common jurisdiction. It is natural for us to categorize objects based on labels, but religion is one of the few areas where people will lump completely unrelated individuals into a common group simply because social convention has applied the same label. Baptists and Roman Catholics, for example, may as well be different religions. Each is mutually exclusive, and it is impossible to be both at the same time. They share no common leadership or jurisdiction, and they differ significantly on the core points of Christian dogma. If one is right, then the other is outside of the Christian Church. It makes no sense whatsoever to associate the two into a common religious group.

RE:
What are some common Christian stereotypes?
This question is for everyone, Christian or non-Christian. I want to put together a list of Christian stereotypes as research for a book I'm writing. (The book is fictional and will not "bash" either side. This is only research for character development, nothing more, and please do...

"What are some common Christian stereotypes?"
The way YOUR question was formulated for starters.
I'm sure you meant to ask: WHAT "are some common Christian" stereotypical characteristics?
NOT "What are some common Christian stereotypes?" cos then you woulda asked: WHO "are some common Christian stereotypes?"
See the subtle difference?
Of course you can't.
Go with my first option.

Well, we are all born doing things wrong. It's the human affliction. Anything contrary to what God wants is called "sin" (that's a very simple interpretation). Christians--who actually think through what they say and know what they are doing--know that we are all born that way, whether we accept it or not. As Christians, the difference between us and others is that we decide to accept it and let God know that we don't want to continue that way. We don't have to keep doing things wrong, we can change--but only with God's help. And believe me, you want a life-change? That is probably the best way to do it. Recognize you can't do it alone and tell Him about it. As to what else we have in common...everything other than choices. We are still human, we are people. Can't change that. What we choose to change however, is how we behave and who we answer to. If some Christians are distinguishing themselves as better, then guess what? They have their chests pumped up a little too high...or they are a little insecure. Either way...it's the perspective they hold. I'm kind of embarrassed to say that I have been proud about it too, in that way. But in reality, pride should be shown in another way...a more humble way for sure. To the other answers: I am so sorry you ran into those people. Ridiculous. But some of those answers are pretty funny. :) Some other stereotypes: 1. We won't date. (Haha sorry, I'm boy-loco sometimes...if I want to date, I will. If underage, however, that's up to your folks.) 2. We are serious about you going to hell if you don't accept him. (Somewhat true, but not like the stereotypical hatred-type.) 3. We are homophobic! (True for some, not for most.) 4. We don't like you if you don't like Jesus. (Ha! Not at all what we preach. We'll just try to spread the love. ;) ) 5. We and the church (building) are attached at the hip. (lol For some, I grew up there and spent a lot of my time there...a bunch of people believe they don't have to go to church to be a "good Christian". It's just a place to "fellowship" with others. A place to hang out with people who believe the same as you. We have food!! I mean, come on?!) The truth? Christians can be stuck up, stupid, and just plain mean...but what does that make us? No different than anyone else. We just believe a little differently. And yes, if you are a TRUE Christian, you believe that Jesus died on a cut-up tree so that we could go to heaven because He didn't "sin" and we were born "sinning"; God can't be where sin is. To help us be where He is, however, He came up with a plan to get rid of "our sin". That's Jesus for you. And He is (I am very proud to say) SO BAD ***. :) Anyone question that? Try nailing yourself to a cross and see how you do...and then try coming back to life three days later too...yeah, I bet that was a killer! He died one of the worst deaths and spent 3 days in hell so you could go be with God. :) He is badass.

One of the most common stereotypes is that all Christians are hardcore Fundamentalists, when in fact, that's simply not the case.

Common Stereotypes:
-Closed-minded
-God fanatics
-The crazy guy who drives around the neighborhood in a winnebago with biblical phrases written all over it.
-The crazy guy who stand on the corner of the street with a megaphone shouting out biblical phrases.
-The crazy guy who wants to make sure the word "God" is on ever government document or item (i.e. money) even though it's unconsitutional.
-They end every conversation with "May you have a blessed day."
-They act Christian, they look Christian, they even go to church like good little Christians but they have sex before marriage, have kids before the age of 16, they do drugs, they smoke, and have sexual convictions. I meet them at every church I been to... Calvery Chapels, 1st Methodists, Baptists Community Churches, Lutheran... You name it I've seen it. I usually go to the youth ministries first before I commit to a church. But I think I want to change my religion to Catholism now. Sorry Granny. It's still Christian but a different sect of it.
-Spends more time at church than experiencing life outside of it.
-Sheltered lifestyle
-Anything out of the norm is deemed an act of the Devil including science.
-Southern Baptists speaking in tongues.
-May fave- When a pastor puts his hand on a blind churchgoer, the pastor says "I release you, demon. The power of Christ compels you (and says it over and over)", the churchgoer starts to have convulsions and falls to the ground, then stands up to say, "I can see again!" And the choir starts to sing "Hallelujah."
-They can recite the bible.
-The bible can answer every question with a quote. Even ones that seems farfetched. Dinosaurs- "Animals with tails as big as tree trunks" That could also mean kimono dragons, tamanduas, or Pygmy elephants.
I hope I didn't offend anyone. I'm a Christian.

Steretypes ABOUT Christians or sterotypes Christians hold about other faiths? Because quite a few Christians hear "Wiccan" or "Witch" and think "Satan worshipper."
Some stereotypes about Christians are narrow-minded and uneducated.
Blessed Yule!
