I keep a 12-pack in the refrigerator for myself. I keep thinking that maybe common decency will win out over petty theft. So far, from the current 12-pack, three have been stolen. The buck-fifty isn't the issue, it's the fact that I cannot even trust my own coworkers, some of whom have MBAs, which is proof that common crooks exist at all levels of education. I'm not the only one who experiences this. Other people in my office lose food to thievery. You'll probably say to put a note on them to identify them as mine, and I have tried that, but to no avail. They still vanish. Maybe it's a fantasy, but rather than try to protect my Cokes from theft, I would rather see the office become a safe haven, devoid of criminal behavior and above reproach. Am I asking too much? Should I lock down my Cokes the way I do my cubicle every night?

DON'T YOU HATE THAT!
How wealthy someone is, doesn't mean a thing!
Short of licking the can tops, I can offer a couple of suggestions.
1. I used to double wrap, several at a time, in a plastic grocery bag, and put them in the refrigerator drawers. Just the fact that they had to unwrap them and put them in a position to be caught, seems to have worked! I didn't lose any more sodas and I did that for 3 years! The others lost theirs all the time! I didn't "share" my tip there...I didn't want them to even know they were in there.
2. Keep them at your work area, get a small refrigerator or cooler.
3. Maybe you could put a little sign in there, away from everything, that says "SMILE you are on camera!" Or...GOD IS WATCHING!
Just kidding, you know they would steal it anyway!
Speaking of that...Maybe you've heard the joke, "At a Sunday school class, there was a potluck. On the bowl of apples was a sign saying, 'Take only one God is watching.' On the other end of the table was a plate of brownies. On it was a sign that said, 'Take only one.' After that, someone had written, 'Take all you like, God is watching the apples.'
Good luck!

I agree with the person who said to put one or two in the frig and keep the rest by you. The only other thing I can think of is putting something on the cans that would make people not want to touch it like put on some lip stick and leave lips marks on the mouth area, few people would want to drink it then even if it hasn't been open. Also people can loose their jobs to something as petty as theft from the frig. Maybe you should send out an anonymous memo?

I work in a professional office too and this sort of thing happens constantly. I mean even to the point where people's lunch for that day has been eaten by someone else. It's very rude and unbelievable that people do this. Unfortunately, you will probably have no choice but to lock your drinks in your desk.

Just put one or two in the fridge at a time and keep the rest in your area. You shouldn't have to but, as you've already pointed out, common crooks exist at all levels of education. Just having one or two may take away the "there's so many and I'm just taking one" syndrome that seems to overtake people.

No, you aren't asking too much. This just goes to show that education level doesn't guarantee class. Perhaps a hidden camera could be installed in the break room area. It is shameful that you are having to deal with such immature behavior at the work place.

It sucks but coworkers can be weird like that. It happened so much at my previous job (my boss ate my whole freakin' lunch one time, lol) now If I want to bring soda/juice I bring just ONE in the morning and leave it in the fridge. It's not as convenient as leaving enough for the week, but people are less likely to steal when there's only one can in the fridge.

You are not asking too much. Stealing is bad and later on the thieves will be punished in one way or another. Maybe you should get a mini fridge for your cubicle

there cokes and food....was there money stolen or purse snatching involved. Offices are like this every where you go....there is always someone or people who take others things without asking or caring. Keep your coke at your desk and yeah lock it down. Sucks but why even let this annoy you or get you upset....its a wasted energy on a petty item.
