Yes it is true, because it contains huge amount of antioxidant that do wonders to the body, and has little side effects compared to other herbs.
Of course the benefits only come when you drink high quality green tea regularly (3 cups a day) over a long time.
Hre is an extract from the article below:
The Chinese people have a long time ago discovered green tea’s healing power. Back in Tang Dynasty, pharmacist Chen Zang famously remarked:
Every medicine is the only medicine for a specific disease, but tea is the medicine for all causes.
And yes, after 1,200 years, he is now proven right.
At the end of 2006, the Pubmed database contains 2,500 green tea studies, with 350 published in just 2006 year alone. Scientists are arriving at the same conclusion.
Most studies are still advancing, with more human trials needed to confirm their applications. Listen to what they say about this amazing drink...

I am a native Atlantan. Tea in the South is on ice and sweet. I dated a great lady from Philadelphia a few years ago and she introduced me to hot tea with cream, half and half. I really enjoy this with black tea.
She said when you have a "cold" drink green tea hot twice a day. I am not big on drugs, scripts that is. I don't know what it does but I do feel better and the cold seems to go away quickly.

It's like broccoli. Sure it's good for you, but you'd have to eat 5 servings a day to have considerable health benefits. There are no miracle foods or drinks... but with continual wise food choices, you'll get a wide range of nutrients. Green tea sure would be a benefit.

Im an avid drinker of green tea. It's great for digestion. And it's also said to reduce the formation of cancers. Well, the Japanese aren't living to 100 because of luck. I think they're on to something. The best part of green tea is it's a natural metabolism booster. My doctor even suggested i drink it to help loose weight.
