Harvey Ross Ball (10 July 1921 – 12 April 2001) is the earliest known designer of the Smiley. He devised the face in 1963 for State Mutual Life Assurance, a Worcester, Massachusetts, USA-based insurance firm. Ball never attempted to use, promote or trademark the image because it fell into the public domain in the United States. As a result, Ball never made any profit beyond his initial $45 fee.

David Stern of David Stern Inc., a Seattle-based advertising agency, also claimed to have invented the smiley. Stern reportedly developed his version in 1967 as part of an ad campaign for Washington Mutual.

what is your point of view? do enjoy that all cars have their own personalities because i do each car has it's own personality that matches the owner it gives people their own place that they can show their identity's with it's called self expression their making statements to the world with their vehicles my truck loves me and i love it we are a good pair with happy faces on the outside but much more complicated on the inside and a license plat is like a name you have a name and so does your car / truck....
